Thanks for highlighting, I just checked out the right phrases are boot hold fixings which attaches to the felt by Velcro, double sided boot mat and retractable parcel shelf. The last one it seems is available only with varioflex seats though

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

The car looks sufficiently sporty outside, and you get much more than the T-Roc; I do feel that a difference of around 5 lakhs with its immediate cousin is a bit on the higher side. But what I didn’t like at all is the colour choice for the interiors. Skoda’s version of beige has a very old-age feel to it, all-black interiors would have really elevated the ambiance.

To me Karoq looks drool worthy. The size is perfect for sensible usage. Looks timelssly smart. Material quality will be class leading. Reliability has been reasonable for a well maintained Skoda. The only gripe is the extra price we pay for this as a CBU. I wish this gets successful and Skoda starts making this locally.

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

Skoda may have intentions to do local assembly of Karoq if the initial response to the CBU units is good and they can justify the investment with good volumes - says Skoda's India Chief, Zac Hollis:
https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...ia-boss-417505

I doubt they will see great uptick in volumes at the price it has been launched. Ideally they should have had an integrated strategy for this vehicle with a subsidized CBU pricing that is ultimately recovered once the car is produced locally and volumes pick up. If Skoda had priced this one at 19.99, it would have flown off the shelves and they would have all the justification they need for local assembly.

IMO, it works the other way around, launch a value for money CBU to attract volumes, which eventually justifies local assembly. Perhaps, incur early financial losses (or call it initial investment) for short period, to capture market.
Next step, enable local assembly, keep prices unchanged to reap the profit, as car is already successful.
This model is no rocket science, repeated by many manufacturers to attract initial response . Sadly, Skoda/VW fails to learn from others.

I think they have gone on record during Press Interactions of Auto Show that they will do precisely that for T-ROC. They believe it make more sense to go with that strategy for T-ROC and not Karoq. But as suggested here I agree that doing that for both T-ROC and Karoq would have been a better idea (for us consumers atleast).

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

Launched just few weeks back, today saw as many as 4 Karoq's on road today. Magnetic Brown and Grey looked nice, white was ok.

Looks like people have found a liking to Karoq despite high price. Surprisingly, I am yet to see it's cheaper sibling the Volkswagen T-ROC.

If one is looking at Turbo Petrol SUV, Creta and Seltos make for better choice despite being from segment below, you save close to 10 lakhs over Karoq.

I am not sure these cars can be considered competitors of the Karoq. Yes there may be some similarities in size and engine specs, but the Karoq looks way more premium and classy. If Creta and Seltos can be considered as competition, I would also wait for a few more months for the Kamiq and the T-Roc. They will be closer to the Karoq in terms of simplicity and elegance of design that will wear well over time.

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

The pricing is really shocking. A price of Rs. 25 lakhs on-road would have done wonders for this product. To make a comparison, I got the VW Tiguan BS-IV (Highline) Model for 30L OTR in January 2020. I had made the purchase after months of contemplating whether to wait for the Karoq/T-Roc or go for the Tiguan, taking advantage of the heavy discounts on offer. Turns out that it was the right decision. The Tiguan looks way more classier than the Karoq. Also hearing rumours of the VW Tiguan 5-seater launch with the same 1.5 TSI engine at around 30L OTR. If that is launched, the Karoq can wave goodbye to the Indian shores.

Re: The Skoda Karoq, now launched at Rs 24.99 lakhs

Here's another one for comparison. Trailhawk was ~32L on road. Less if you could negotiate. Tiguans HL B IV went for 30L. Atrocious pricing by Skoda. Not much better for the VW also. T-Roc is ordinary inside. Even a Kia Seltos would outdo it! Terrible stuff by VW.
