BMW India has launched the locally assembled trim of the 5 Series – the 530i Sport at Rs 55.40 lakhs (ex-showroom). The new trim is the most affordable variant of the 5 in India and is assembled at the BMW Group’s Chennai facility.

The engine in question is the BS6 compliant 2.0-litre four-cylinder producing 250bhp and 350Nm. Sending power to rear wheels is an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters and the sedan is capable of doing 0-100kmph in just 6.1 seconds. It also comes with launch control function and four driving modes. Other hardware included are - dynamic stability control, cornering brake, hill descent control, run-flat tyres, adaptive headlamps, and dynamic traction control.

Re: BMW 530i Sport launched at Rs 55.40 lakh

Thread should read RE-Launch. The only reason why BMW has got this back is because they got too bullish with their pricing/models of the 5. Now that the Lexus ES and Audi A6 are at 55 and below pricing they need to get realistic rather than hype up the price and show discounts.

Is this the same car as the Sportline 530i which they launched in 2017 when the G30 was introduced to us (and discontinued later)?

Re: BMW 530i Sport launched at Rs 55.40 lakh

The difference in features according to the brochure on BMW's website are as follows:

530i Sport VS 530i M-Sport

HiFi Loudspeaker System (205W, 12 Speakers) VS Harman Kardon Sound System (600W, 16 Speakers)

Park Distance Control (Front and Rear) with Rear view camera VS 360 deg Surround view cameras

Other features that the M-Sport gets over the Sport are Parking Assistant, Remote control parking and Wireless Charging.

Oddly, the Sport gets "Roller Sunblinds" which the M-Sport doesn't get. Misprint on the brochure?

How are they pricing this at 55? Definitely there would be no discounts just yet. The 530i M Sport makes so much more sense with this pricing, 60L ex-showroom and they are offering a 6L discount.

If memory serves right that was the last naturally aspirated V6 and this one here is just the usual turbocharged 4 cylinder engine that does duty on the 3-series as well.

Internationally there is 540i which now has the V6 which i think they should have got here otherwise the 5-series (at least to me) looks like a compromise, I mean i would any day take the 3 series over the 5.

Re: BMW 530i Sport launched at Rs 55.40 lakh

This is definitely not the earlier sportline, I just had a brief glance and off the hook, the differences I can see between the sport and earlier sportline I drive is the lack of:- Sport seats, adjustable dampers, crappy looking 17” alloys VS 18 earlier.
Maybe something’s I’ve missed

Memory sure doesn't serve your right
The G30 530i was never powered by a V6 or even an inline-6 for that matter. Always had the B48 2.0L 4-cyclinder engine which is there on this one and the new 330i too!

I suppose me turning 40 is showing now

However I am sure there was a version of 5 series that was a v6 or an in-line 6

BMW does not produce V6, it will be straight-six- 540i which we don't get in 5 series here. 740 is what we can buy.

Re: BMW 530i Sport launched at Rs 55.40 lakh

The B48 in the heavier 5 makes less BHP and almost 50 NM less torque. Wonder why the power figures don’t match the new 3 when both have identical engines.

The last in-line 6 on a 5 series in India was the G20 535i (CBU) and that was turbocharged. It was later discontinued. Before that the E60 530i had a NA in-line 6. No V6 s were ever developed by BMW. Cheers.

Re: BMW 530i Sport launched at Rs 55.40 lakh

So I was sure that the 5 series did have a 6 cylinder version, just wasn’t sure on whether it was v6 or in-line. Thanks for clarifying that!
