Hyundai Verna Facelift spotted testing in India

Hyundai Verna facelift has been spotted testing in Chennai. This time, the car has dropped hints at it's styling elements as well as engine options.

Thankfully, the awful-looking Chinese version isn't what we would be getting here. This looks closer to the Solaris facelift that Hyundai's arm in Russia is launching shortly.

I, for one, couldn't digest that monstrous rear end of the Chinese Verna!

The Sticker on the rear window reads "1.5 TOP M6" and PETROL.
Thanks to my Eagle Eyes . I can confirm that it is the Russian Version.
Here's the VIN Decoded from rear window sticker.

The Russian Solaris and the Indian Verna are identical. It's just the Hyundai Accent that is alitle different and more upmarket.

Eagerly awaiting to see what's new on the inside. Connected car, digital MID and a new HUD seem very likely.

If this is just a facelift, why does the title read next-gen Verna?

Sad if there is no TGDi engine option on the Verna!

Or will it be made available one spec below the top end - as is the case with Hyundai automatics?

2020 Hyundai Solaris unveiled in Russia:

From the above video, some of the changes I can see are:
  • Rear disc brakes
  • New alloys
  • LED headlamps
  • Larger touchscreen (though its integration is quite bad and looks like an aftermarket unit, not something we expect from Hyundai)
  • 2 parking sensors at the front

Why are they giving the smaller Venue engine. Usually drive train of Verna matches with Creta. Makes no sense to give a 1.5L NA petrol and a smaller 1.0L turbo for the higher model.

Would be yummy if they plonked the 1.4L T-GDI from the Kia and upcoming Creta.

Looks like they are just matching with the competition. VW, Skoda and Honda will all have a similar capacity engine with similar output. Hyundai may not be wanting to bring a gun to a sword fight!

Might be to earn fat profits! 1.0L Turbo GTDI is already in Venue. Using same in Verna will bring in more economies of scale, and slapping a red "Turbo" badge on the bumper will make customers feel it is a sporty car they are buying (since it would be in the higher variants).

Economies of scale for sure. 1.0 TGDi is in the Aura and Nios as well, although in a lower 100bhp state of tune.

However, that doesn't make it any less capable in the full 118hp spec. Its a punchy turbo petrol with an excellent mid-range. Should be a fast car for real world usage.

Competition like the Ciaz and the new City have skipped their turbo petrol in favour of their old 1.5NA petrol. Skoda and VW have resorted to the 1.0 TSi. So Hyundai has no real competition to offer something bigger than the 1.0 TGDi.

Would be interesting to see how it stacks up against the new city in terms or pricing and features.
