Evoque is technically not an offroader.Plus you compared it with the trailhawk version which has better off road capability.
You should be looking at Land Rover range if you require proper offroading.

Land Rover is working on a range-topping V8 version of the new Defender.
Revealed in spy shots.

Imho some cars are meant only to be three doors and five door versions ruin the look and stance completely. The new defender and the Suzuki Jimny are two such examples

Would anyone know the domestic pricing of the Defender and G wagen in their home countries?

Given they are meant to be used harshly by Govts, Defence and Farmers etc etc, how can they get away with this pricing.

In their countries these are the viewed in the category of say a Scorpio 4x4 or Safari 4x4 ( a bit ambitious comparision by me I agree) how do they generate sales numbers if tbey are priced as niche luxury vehicles?

UK website lists starting price of new defender 110 version at about 46000 gbp. That makes it about 44 lakhs at 95 rupees to a pound.

The defender 90 version starts from about 41000 gbp that is about 39 lakhs. Add the import duty and 70 lakhs looks reasonable. Cannot attach an additional screenshot in edit mode.

The G-Wagon isn't positioned as a Germany's version of the Scorpio. It is only the older versions (20th Century models) that were known and used for their off-road prowess. Mercedes has positioned the modern incarnation as a luxury lifestyle car across the world so the current gen G is priced at EUR 110,000+ across Europe and GBP 100,000+.

Similarly while the Defender has been created with the off-road hobbyist in mind, it's also positioned largely as a daily runabout so it's priced at GBP 40,000 onwards in the UK.

Both countries mostly use BMW and Mercedes' normal SUV offerings for security detail, armoured cars etc with the UK also using Range Rover/ Sport.
Hope this helps!

nsbhagwat, AamodB, ha ha, thanks for blowing away any delusions that I had about domestic pricing of these vehicles.

But are there no cheap hardy 4x4s left in the world?

Internationally that leaves just LC Troopcarrier,Suzuki Jimny and Jeep Wranglers to dominate this space.

I guess its FAR mor profitable for the likes of JLR and MB to concentrate on high margin niche vehicles.
Which is a bit of a pity for mainstream chaps like me.
Oh well!!

I don't like this mod. This makes it look like other Range Rovers. With those alloys it will be another street car.

Maybe the target for this is the London Crowd

I enjoyed watching that video on YT, what a land and what a drive!
But sadly this LR new Defender at 70 ex showroom will bring it to 90++ on road in India and this is NOT an option for most of us.
I will wait for a few years and there will be some nice used options in the market. For example one can get a 2011 Range Rover Sport at 35 lacs odd, which is superb. Buying these imports first hand and full price is not worth it. Best to buy used.

Land Rover Defender deliveries delayed in some countries due to COVID-19. However, India-bound Defenders to be delayed by only about 2-3 Weeks.

Looks like the Defender is off to a poor start. Seems there's just 22,000 bookings worldwide for the new Defender out of which 11000 are actually for test drive vehicles.

This probably has more to do with COVID than the car.

Adrian Mardell, chief financial officer, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) revealed We’ve actually put on pause the Defender 90, because we’re making sure that the (5-door) 110 gets an appropriate launch, said Merdell. He later confirmed the company will open up the Defender 90 later in the second quarter (July-September) of FY21.

Deliveries for the larger 110 will commence in August 2020, as per the original timeline.
