I bought the Ford Freestyle last year, after selling my Ritz which I drove for 7 years.
Much of what I wrote was played out during the last purchase, when I finally decided on the Freestyle over other contenders like Baleno, i20 etc.

My preferred MUST have -
1. ABS / EBD
2. 6 air bags
3. ESP
4. Safety rating of minimum 4
5. Automatic (NO AMT)
5. Good Driveability and Minimum 160 bhp
6. Auto folding mirror
7. Rain sensing wipers
8. Key less entry
9. Chiller AC
10. Good space at rear and in boot

Before owning my first car here I didn't have any specific criteria as I was planning to spend as less as I can for a new automatic (AMT etc.). But now after owing Grand i10 NIOS, my must haves are

1. ABS + 6 air bags at least (mine has 2).
2. Automatic only (don't care about AMT or TC but no other complex technology like DSG or whatever it is called).
3. Auto folding mirror (mine needs manually to be folded, hyundai skimped here)
4. Ability to change ORVM electronically from inside.
5. Window buttons at expected regular place which is on right side door of driver. I don't want weird position like spresso / celeario.
6. Keyless entry
7. Rear AC wents
8. Apple Car Play / Android Auto
