Got this Email recently. Thought it would be interesting. Autocar has reached 1,99,000 readers.

@Mods, in no way is this an advertising attempt. If it is inappropriate, you may delete it. Thanks.

On a side note, one must check out the new BSMotoring-Home. Very exhaustive and it's much easier to locate old road tests or travel stories or features. Slightly slow to load I agree, but so much better in terms of content than any of the other auto magazine websites around.

Although it isn't on the list, I have started liking Top Gear (India) of late.

Overdrive continues to praise the Laura 1.8 TSI's non-existent supercharger this month as well. They even go onto say that the Laura's supercharged engine gives amazing performance in low revs and then the turbo kicks in providing great performance through out the rev range.

Have they even opened the bonnet to see that there is no supercharger in the Laura.

Lol I don't read Overdrive but that is pretty funny. Obviously they meant turbocharger but its a mistake nonetheless

No no, they mention the turbocharger kicks in later after the supercharger provides the boost at lower rpm's.

Ok, I agree that ACi is better than OD BUT I don't understand why its price is increasing day by day and that so called "XTRA PAGES" Edition, around 50% are ads!

and we pay for those classifieds. ACI suddenly comes up with a special issue and prices it high. The increased price only means more classifieds' pages.

I would be damned. But is that normally_crazy in the rear and front seats of the cars of the ACI road tests? where they try to show how much leg/head/shoulder space is available in the car.

Hope normally_crazy dosent mind me comparing that person to him. Apologies if i have.

Could be. He & Drifter (star ACI road-tester ) are pretty thick buddies.

EDIT : Or are you mistaking Drifter's pic for NC?

I used to always prefer Overdrive initially. Didnt take me long to get hooked onto Autocar later. Its been about 3 years since I read either of them , seems my decision to move onto Autocar is still justified.

Better magazine

I used to previously buy Overdrive. for past 1 to 1 1/2 years, I was having a feeling of some thing is missing in the magazine. It is not the same as it was previously.

After a thorough research I found the reasons for my uneasiness. The reason for falling in numbers of the overdrive in my opinion is as below:

Until Sirish Chandran took over as chief Editor, the magazine was doing good business. After he taking over, the magazine started to focus mainly on fast and furious foreign cars which are only a distant dream for any average indian buyer. They also started to devote more pages for rallying and racing (both local and outside india). They have started to allot less number of pages for the locally available car and always seem to fly to a foreign destination to test a funky car which may not come to India. Even if it comes to india, this will sell 10s or 20s only. Previously they were doing many comparison tests on the locally available cars. They also did some novel comparions such comparing mileage, cost of ownership etc. Now they have stopped all these things.

Recently I got a chance to read Autocar India. Then I found the difference and immediately stopped buying Overdrive and switched to AutocarIndia.

But I will stop buying AutocarIndia also, as I find Team BHP is miles ahead of these two magazines.

Regards,

csk
