The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has approached the Supreme Court of India seeking an extension for the sale of BS4 vehicles till May 31, 2020.



In February 2020, the apex court had rejected a similar application by FADA, which was filed due slowing sales and unsold BS4 inventory. According to FADA, since then, circumstances have changed following the cornavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The pandemic is said to have resulted in a drastic drop in sales and customer walk-ins. Counter sales are said to have fallen by 60-70% across dealerships in the past few days.

These are exceptional circumstances, so yes maybe a month or two extra should be given to offload BS-4 stock.

Seeing the overall sentiment of the market in past few years and added Complexities with the virus outbreak, it's a justified ask.

Add to it, the air is much more cleaner these days, atleast in Bangalore, with majority of people staying at home, and lesser number of cars in road.

Agree. This is a force majeur condition that is impacting businesses across the board. Any delays due to coronavirus need to be factored in. Also there seems to big impact on the supply side as well. You do not want businesses to collapse due to regulations now.

As it is the end of the financial year, it will be better if the government extends the time for impacted sectors by a month or 2.

A very reasonable demand keeping in mind the situation. But Supreme court should make it very clear that production of BS IV cars stops on 31st Mar 2020. Agreed that most of them have already stopped but it should not give new excuse for manufacturers to produce more BSIV with this extension.

China being the epicenter, some of the manufacturers were impacted on the supply side as well. Even if 99% of the car is ready, missing one percent parts make the car a dead stock.

In lieu of this, extension should be given across the board.

Stop the production and allow the sales. That should be good enough. Most manufacturers anyway were ready.

I agree, even RTOs may not be working at full capacity. Two months extension is a reasonable demand.

They will then just pass that on to the BS6 stock by raising prices. In the end, its the consumer that will lose.

Voted Yes! If a good deal has to be had, why not? Some hot deals would be out there, if one's on the look out to buy, it will be great!

Not only dealers but manufacturers will get the benefit as well.

I don’t see why they shouldn’t be allowed to sell existing stock since the economy has slowed down. Maybe the government should lower excise taxes for BS6 cars for the period.

Don’t want to see the production of new BS4 vehicles- especially MSIL trying to revive the 1.5 diesel in the BS4 state of tune.

Somehow doesn’t make sense to me, less than 2 weeks before the deadline. Most manufacturers were supposed to exhaust their stock completely by now through whatever means. Why were they even assembling bs4 models after December - early January ( when supply chain was not disrupted)is a pertinent question. Corona or not, we have to get over this “ time please? ” mentality.
