re: The BMW X3 M, now launched at Rs. 99.99 lakhs

From a quick search, X3M is priced to start in the same ballpark as the outgoing M3 / M4 in the USA ($70K). Given that the M4 was around 1.35cr ex showroom, 99.9L seems to be pretty good? Or were the M3s & M4s overpriced to start with?

BTW, simply scaling down the starting price from $70k to $55K for the M340i still leads to a 77L price for the M340i, which is crazy expensive (~60% more than the 330i MSport)

Re: The BMW X3 M, now launched at Rs. 99.99 lakhs

I’d say the pricing is pretty competitive for a full blown M car. Although it’s not the competition version which has 30 more bhp to 510 bhp, but this is the first M car in India to get the new S58 engine, which is the highest rated engine so far for a BMW inline 6, which will follow in the new M3 and the M4 which BMW might bring to India at a later date. Small things like the Harmon Kardon sound system and the BMW display key are optional extras, should have just been given standard. The M drivers package is another interesting extra, which raises the top speed to 174 mph from the restricted 155 mph. ( doesn’t make sense for India) All in all it’s a rocket:Cheering

And what is the point of having such marketing tagline, when your product are priced so exorbitant against competition making a BMW purist POSTPONE his purchase...

Bye bye BMW for a product which is DOA

I think it totally depends on what you are looking for. The BMW is a CBU, has a more conventional SUV shape that will appeal to a wider set of audience and packs in almost 100 bhp more resulting in better performance (0-100 in 4.2 sec vs GLC43's 4.9 sec).

So I feel the 20-odd lakh difference is justified. Had the X3 M been a CKD like the GLC43, I'm sure the pricing would have been much closer to that of the Mercedes.

I guess the M3/M4 were overpriced to start with, X3M at its price is actually VFM. The M340i will most probably be a CKD so shave 6-8L off your scaled down price of 77. Will be a hoot to drive, can't wait!

You do realize that they're 2 completely different vehicles.. X3M is a global first with the new S58 engine which it shares with the M3 and M4 and its a sub 4 second car to the ton(tested by multiple reviews on Youtube) vs the 0-100 of the GLC43 which rarely does it in the claimed time... more like 5.1/5.2s. Putting the numbers aside, X3M is a different animal and the GLC43 holds no matter to it on the driving/handling aspects(looks are subjective).

If Mercedes decides to launch the GLC63, it would be positioned well above the C63 coupe(1.2 Crores). The GLC43 is a great product at a 'decent' price but keep in mind, the previous CBU was 75 and the C43(CBU) is 75 so Merc could have easily priced this at 70-72L given the local assembly.

All those numbers is a given but they have launched it at a physiological pricing, which is nothing but 1 crore. So, if they really want to sell it in numbers they should have tried to price it more competitive.

Re: The BMW X3 M, now launched at Rs. 99.99 lakhs

The problem with the X3M is that apart from the engine, it looks boringly ordinary to a plain vanilla X3 but with different wheels.

The M3 and M4 have more distinguishing features

Its not that simple. There are different tax brackets for CBUs. They've built a really loaded spec at 99.9. Barely needs any options. Cannot be compared with the Merc as they are two different cars. The real competitor would be the 63 version which would most definitely be a CBU.

A sleeper car might be what we need with this boring look. The Autocar reviews make it sound awesome. Can we expect a no holds Team-Bhp review ?

Re: The BMW X3 M, now launched at Rs. 99.99 lakhs

^^
These SAV/ SUV are fun on straight roads as you can find in the review but an M2 will be far better on twisting sections and the low sitting posture is more enjoyable even otherwise. In my opinion, a pretty pointless launch.

M2-C is a better car and with right profile of tyres can handle our roads easily. Besides, X3-M can not be a one car garage due to higher costs and limited availability of premium fuel and other extras. So, I will keep a M2-C and a regular SUV/ SAV. It does get a newer 6 cylinder engine which does sound nice in the above video as you pointed.

Due to the COVID, BMW had postponed an M event they originally planned for December and they would have showcased these. Hopefully things get better by April. If someone is really keen, I am sure BMW Dealers can arrange a demo on the company car.

Although to be fair, given the horrendous(IMO) new design on the next gen M3 and M4, I'd prefer boring to hideous.
