Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna facelift to be priced from Rs. 9.31 lakh

Why do I have the feeling the 1.5 petrol/diesel SX(O) would garner more booking than the 1.0 turbopetrol. Why is there no diesel automatic??

The 1.0 seems to be targetted at the driving enthusiast looking for an automatic! Probably the best choice in the segment too (Now that the VW 1.2 TSi DSG combination is discontinued) - against the City CVT and the Ciaz 4AT.

Good package at least on paper -
  • 120ps turbo petrol
  • DCT with paddle shifters
  • All black interiors with red accents
  • Side& Curtain airbags
  • ESC/VSM/HAC
  • Rear Disk Brakes
  • TPMS

And priced 32k cheaper than the City 1.5 CVT ZX variant, as per the above materials.

So there is no diesel auto? Thats surprising considering the Verna had an auto until now and the Seltos and the Creta too have diesel automatics. Probably the sales of the Verna off late has been skewed towards petrols that Hyundai thought why bother with another variant in diesel. Still, it could have been a differentiator, considering the petrols in Hyundai dont have the best efficiency.

The 1.5 petrol will get a CVT and 1.5 diesel will get a 6 speed torque converter AT. The material shared does not have the price.

Have a look here: https://www.hyundai.com/in/en/find-a...ighlights.html

The turbo petrol with DCT has just 5 PS more than the other engines. The DCT definitely gives you the bragging rights, but would that make such a difference in the real world performance ? I think the diesel with torque converter AT will still be the better performer.

In Venue's case the power difference is almost 20 PS between the turbo petrol and the diesel. So it makes sense to go for the DCT there for performance. But in case of Verna, I don't think it makes sense to go for the DCT.

Can't take my eyes off that front chicken wire. I don't even think you can black it out - it's possibly gonna be like those street cruiser cars, so much bling.

If you're ok with that, I guess the rest of the tale isn't that bad. Wonder why they added the 1L turbo. It just sticks out from their usual line up. Hopefully, they have thought this through and not pull it a year after.

Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna facelift to be priced from Rs. 9.31 lakh

They could have gone for variant like S+ or something in between. The S looks bit stripped down (obviously for a base variant). SX with sun roof and other features look more than a mid variant.

S+ variant can have essentials like auto climate control, alloys wheels, auto folding mirrors etc to make a good balanced option in terms of features and value.

1.0 variant doesn't look stand out here. The other variants will / can do 90% of performance of 1.0 at a better price ( and probably with better efficiency and refinement). CVT/TC will cause lesser headaches as well.

The SX variant has been blasphemously increased by 93000 rupees. This has put a spanner in the works as we booked the BS6 SX with the assurance from the dealership that the price increase wont exceed 25-30 thousand rupees.

When the current generation Verna was launched in 2017, there was a diesel auto but in the lower trim of SX only. It had additional features such as sunroof, unlike its MT counterpart. They launched a top variant diesel auto only after a year and half. The objective of the Hyundai seemed, then, to keep Verna's price range within certain limits at the time of launch. Once the price range is established and gets accepted, it is possible to introduce a new variant with a greater price. May be, a diesel auto a little later, of may be there is one which is not disclosed here (as it is pointed out above).

Re: Scoop! Hyundai Verna facelift to be priced from Rs. 9.31 lakh

While the leaked images don't reveal the prices of the the petrol CVT and diesel automatic, my guess is that the petrol CVT will be offered in the S and SX trims with a premium of 90k-100k over the base petrol manual price.

Again, for the diesel automatic, I think it would be offered in the S and SX trims at launch (approx 100k-120k premium) while the top end SX(O) diesel AT would be launched at a later date. This will allow Hyundai to keep prices within the range of prices already mentioned in the pictures. Also, by the time diesel AT comes in, it will enjoy no competition from others so again, the customer will pay the price simply due to no alternative option.

It is shocking that no ABS in S and SX trim in new Hyundai Verna. Wasn't ABS mandatory even in base model along with Airbag?
Morever the petrol SX(O) variant is only available with CVT with no manual option in SX(O).
Let see how Honda is going to price New Honda City.

I have attached brochure of new Verna for reference

EDIT: @blackwasp you are right there is ABS even in base model. My mistake!

It is there, the document mostly highlights features added / removed w.r.t. old Verna, as well as compare with the Honda City and rivals. So they might not have mentioned it explicitly, but it surely will be there. Plus its mandatory as well.

There is no way Hyundai could have skipped those especially when it's mandatory on every car.

Now the biggest war IMO will be between this Verna Diesel AT & New Honda City Diesel CVT when it launches in future.
