We are a country where people wear face masks but do not wear helmets. I don’t think they will take airbags over some bling.

Gone are the days when rear bumpers used to have a paunch to protect the bodywork from getting scratched or dented while reversing. And while this trend was a necessity in the sub-4 metre segment, I just cannot wrap my head around why more and more manufacturers are going for the trimmed bumpers for their cars which are NOT CONSTRAINED by length-related tax benefits.

Look at the Creta, Seltos and now Alcazar. I have attached a picture below for better understanding (pardon the crude MS Paint job).

Attachment 2168137

In Pic 1 -- Imagine the white line is a wall, what protection to the rear hatch of the car does that excuse of a bumper provide while reversing? Worse, replace the wall with a tree slanting forward and you have a disaster waiting to happen (happened to me personally while reversing my Brezza).

Now look at Pic 2 –- Why can’t manufacturers add a few inches of plastic to the bumper and make it a bit longer? It will not only protect the hatch but also add to the bulk and length of the car, which in the case of an SUV, is an added bonus.

Remember the old SX4s, Citys and Corollas with their bulbous rear bumpers? I personally loved them.

Attachment 2168142

And aren’t the car makers in a way forcing the owners to install those obnoxious rear bull guards on their cars?

To conclude, the reason behind this trend, according to me is that the car makers are just creating more avenues of revenue for their dealers. An easily scratched/dented rear hatch = more moolah for the ASS' body repair section!
Agreed 100%, I even started a thread on the bumper delete phenomenon going on rendering bumpers useless. I feel that bumpers have become purely cosmetic and exist in their current form to save money on metal by making that "panel" out of plastic instead.
I also don't buy the garbage about how it's for pedestrian safety as it can be clearly seen in your photos that the pedestrian will hit the metal edge of the boot/bonnet at the exact same time they hit the soft deformable plastic of the bumper.

re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

Finally the Hyundai Alcazar has arrived! I bet this is going to be the Maruti Swift of the Indian SUV Scene, until the Seltos 7-seater comes. This suddenly makes the Creta look like a low cost cut-chassis alternative. The customer base will probably tilt towards the Alcazar?

re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

So the Alcazar base variant(Prestige) is based on the one below top variant Creta (SX) and also offers two additional features one being the 7 inch digital instrument cluster and diamond cut alloy wheels.
Creta SX 1.5 diesel MT is priced at 14,97,000 ex showroom which means Alcazar range will start from roughly around 16.5-17lac ex showroom which translates to almost 20.5-21lac on road Bangalore for the base variant Alcazar.

re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

Found this good walkaround video.
Though I have big reservations about going with a Hyundai, Kia cars mainly because of their reliability & safety ratings, it feels like this is very competitive product they have offered and is like a hot but grumpy chic in town which is too good to ignore. If Hyundai can somehow manage to get a good GNCAP score on this one, this car will make all the other cars in this range irrelevant and booking period will go through the roof in no time.

Alcazar Signature variant spotted before launch.

Can be confirmed from ‘signature’ badge on bootlid, front parking sensors and front ventilated seat switches.

re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

I might be among the minority here, but I don't like the looks of the Alcazar at all. The Creta had this curvy, swoopy design, with wavy body lines. From every angle the Creta maintains that design language and that's why it looks good.

The Alcazar on the other hand looks like it has the back end of the Endeavour slapped on. Simply doesn't have that cohesive design. Sides look out of sync with the rear. Large curved body lines look like they would be at home on a boat. Looks like they hired Ford designers towards the end

Anyways, if Hyundai get too greedy with pricing, the Safari or Crysta will make more sense. Any news about safety? GNCAP tests? By now we should all know better... hoping Hyundai don't remain silent on safety.

Alcazar's front grille looks so much good. Here's one in black spotted at a dealership. I can't wait to get that grille on my Creta

Don't think that will be possible as the grille in Alcazar merges with the headlights while it is separate in Creta.

Well I have different opinion based on what I went through during finalizing Swift(over Dzire) 10 yrs ago and recently booked Creta (not even considering Alcazar). Swift decision was easy and it was just me and my wife who wanted a fun to drive compact car and didn't consider spending extra money over a makeshift boot of Dzire which was overkill for a small family at that time. Fast forward now and addition of 2 kids. Still we are looking for fun to drive car which can, on most occasions, be used by four of us and very occasionally the need will arise for using it for more than 2 adults with luggage. The size of Creta fits the bill perfectly without splurging 20+ Lacs for 6-7 seater Alcazar (or XUV700, Safari etc for that matter). My point is that CSUV would still have takers specially urban families who would be looking for practicality rather than people mover aspect. Swift numbers (vs Dzire) support this theory that there will be enough takers for both versions.

For that bumper + grill will have to be changed since the fog lamps and indicators are also different between the Alcazar and Creta.

One way it's possible is to fully replace the bumper (and grille) as well. The headlights are the same, it's just that connecting plastic piece that makes it look like the Alcazar's headlights are a single unit. I'm sure we'll see many 2nd gen Creta owners doing this.

Seems to be priced well and in expected lines, good to see Hyundai not going greedy, would have been easy specially after seeing the initial interest to price it a bit higher. They did say introductory prices though, hopefully the prices stay same for few months.

I think the pricing is fantastic!

This car is going to set the sales charts on fire. Hector / Harrier / Safari will definitely feel the heat from this.
