re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

Looking at the camouflage version images, I feel 'this' model with 5 seats should have been labelled as the 2nd generation Creta. The overall design is much more pleasing to the eyes compared to the current 2nd Creta.

With the 2.0L NA Petrol and 1.5L Turbo diesel and as usual long list of features, I see a winner here, provided the success hasn't hit the heads of the top brass @ Hyundai so as to price this competitively. Good that Hyundai is letting the customer decide if they want a manual transmission or an automatic with either of the engines. Since the Torque converter is on offer, it shall be tuned conservatively.

Tail lights remind me of the Endeavour whereas the side profile screams MG Hector.

Yes, realised about the Hector’s 18 inchers, but neither Goodyear (Hector’s tyre brand) nor Apollo (for Alcazar) has 215/55/R18s mentioned on their website. So they are being made very specifically even some online tyre shops mention incorrect tyre specification.

While on the topic of tyres of the Alcazar - I'd have preferred a slightly wider patch than 215, even if maybe with lesser rim diameter for that matter. For a larger, heavier & longer car that can potentially carry more passenger weight - it would be logical to have grippier surface contact. No? 215 is really Venue territory still.

Honestly after 96,000 kms on my Creta, I know it is a 5 seater compared to the Alcazar but never have I felt it to be under-tyred. 215/60 R17 is sort of perfect and correct for all kinds of users. The Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport that came as OEM was excellent both in terms of dry and wet grip even after 70K kms. With all the roads, speeds the Creta faces, I didn't feel to get an upsize done when I changed the tyres recently.

Keeping Venue in mind, I feel 195 section or max 205 section would have been optimal rather than giving it 215/60 R16. Ertiga which is a 7 seater comes shod with 185/65 R15.

215 is absolutely fine for Creta. No doubt about it. Optimum in fact IMO. But for a significantly larger car, with a much longer wheelbase, I'd say grippier tyres would make more sense in cornering and fast maneuvering in theory at least. Because it can carry as much as 120 odd KGs of passenger weight extra very realistically compared to a Creta. I don't mean to say its under-tyred. But rather than more diameter of the rim - I'd have picked wider surface any day for a more composed ride. Especially with a potentially sprightly 2.0 engine. With the 1.5 Diesel - sure 215 will make more sense to look after the fuel efficiency more.

For visual reference - look how thin the tyres appear for the visual bulk above. Doesn't appear proportionate to me (purely personal opinion of course).

I stopped looking at Maruti as a positive reference benchmark of anything decades ago (speaking as an owner of 2 Marutis in life).

Just saw a tweet from Anand Mahindra announcing XUV 700. Reaction to Hyundai launch, maybe.

re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

Wheelbase of Alcazar(2760mm) seems to be 150mm more than creta(2610mm), and I have been reading Alcazar is overall 30mm longer than creta. I am not able to come to terms with overall length considering the proportions and rear overhang.

Can someone share more info in this regard ?

Hyundai Alcazar camouflaged preview, no glimpse of the interior though. The market launch and price announcement for the Alcazar is expected in May 2021

If one were to look closely, one can see it is the design of a castle. Perhaps based on the Alcazar castle after which it is named ? If so the person who made these camo sheets deserves an applause for his/her attention to detail

re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

So they flew all these guys to an off-site location to do a camouflaged drive and review?

And they will again repeat this exercise for a full revealed drive and review?

I frankly pity the journos who have to compile these stories. Indian automobiles are anyway a bore at the best of times, and then imagine you have to drive what is an LWB Creta twice and create a sense of excitement and positiveness through your review (because one can't be too negative). Flourishing words about steering feedback and cornering prowess when all one needs to do is to just basically do a deconstruction of the variant-list.

Ironically enough that is the one peice of information that is very difficult to find in a compiled form.

Same. I was like 'What the hell! How much influence does General Alcazar and his band of Picaros have had on the Koreans that they named a brand new car after him!'.

So where does the Alcazar prices start from ?

Kartikeya Singhee from ZigWheels says it might be 70k to 1.2 L premium over Creta.

Sirish from Evo - "Should be priced ₹1 lakh-odd more than Creta"

CnB hinting @ 15-20L ex-showroom prices. If that is the case then Hector plus makes more sense.
