re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

Just when we were finally beginning to digest the Creta's front face, Hyundai brings in this monstrosity of a grill.
On the other hand, the rear definitely looks better now.
A lot of people bought the 2020 Creta despite how it looked. Guess the same will be for the Alcazar.

One lower from top-end variant will also get a sunroof, as seen here fabric seats with panoramic sunroof.

Roof has been carved out over the 3rd row to provide more headroom.

Yes, this is the only grouse from my end as well on Alcazar. Rest all other rave features are very much necessitated for me.
I have had a soft booking (unofficial) booking for Diesel AT high end by Apr 2021 itself.
Now i need to wait to see the 6 seater and decide to progress with Alcazar.

Despite that polarizing design this will surely pull crowd away from XUV 500, Harrier, Marazzo, Safari, Scorpio circles.

Agreed, it may not be a possibility in XUV700 too. But why does Hyundai think that people with infants or those who need don't deserve a 7 seater with all the bells and whistles?

I think the 2.0 NA petrol engine will be a bit of a trick up their sleeve. I am sure this will perform better in terms of linear smooth power delivery in real-world than the turbo engines from Mahindra and MG.

Marazzo has a kerb weight of ~1650kgs and Alcazar should be around that since Creta is around ~1300kg. By pure numbers, the Alcazar is also down by ~10bhp/50NM on Marazzo. I own Marazzo that has a 1.5 diesel and it gets the job done, that's about it. It huffs and puffs on ghats when fully loaded, I plan when to overtake but gets me there.
Point is - it will get the job done but I would not expect driving pleasure of any kind. I understand no too engines are exactly the same but this is my guess without driving the Alcazar.

Good to see Blind View Monitor in display moving down from bigger cosuins like Pallisade on which it was first introduced, excellent feature.

There is no way the Alcazar is going to weigh 400kg more than the Creta. Going by what we have witnessed in other cars which have undergone this conversion (Safari/Hector Plus) the weight penalty ought to be 100-150kg at the maximum depending on the variant.

That's the unladen weight presumably. Add another 150 kg for two additional human beings and maybe another 30 kg for their luggage. That should put us in the 300 - 350 kg ballpark.

Sorry you cannot compare a Marazzo to the Creta or Alcazar. The Marazzo is a wierd body on frame chassis with a transverse engine with a complex suspension to handle this design since its also a front wheel drive. So the Alcazar being a monocoque has a weight advantage here. Since Hyundai doesnt seem to share kerb weight details, I would say a weight increase of around 100-150kgs is going to be it. Not like 300 kilos or so.

I was comparing the kerb weight of the vehicles. Ofcourse the Alcazar will have a higher gross weight. But then we cannot compare laden weights of vehicles. Power to weight ratio is generally calculated using the kerb weight.

Please don't make this a discussion about the weight or comparison with Marazzo- it is a specific question about how well can it lug 5-6 people with that 1.5ltr diesel. If you have an opinion, please share that.

I have a 7seater and it has a similar engine and I shared my experience.

Thanks Nilesh. I asked the question originally and your response was helpful. It is logical and definitely gives a sense of how this engine may feel in real conditions. Goes without saying that I'll have to drive the Alcazar to really feel it myself.

So, there is no 7 seater option for petrol AT? That is blasphemy. Or do they think the petrol AT is not powerful enough to pull that one extra person?
