Maybe, people weren't there due to the pandemic situation! But, I was quite surprised at this btw!

Once the situation settles down, people will hop into the showrooms and have a look at this car!

Re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

Had been to Hyundai Stockyard couple of days back to have a look at the Alcazar. Car looked promising and composed. Though the third row is a tight fit for a fully grown adults to be comfortable, short journey could be managed and thanks for the middle row sliding seats. Over all the dimensions looked good. It sure will sell in good numbers. The only disappointment being the 1.5L diesel engine specs!!!

Re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

I love the looks of the Alcazar ! However in an effort to fit in the 3rd row , Hyundai has ended up with a product which has a compromised 2nd row (even compared to Creta) and a near unusable 3rd row. Petrol automatic buyers in NCR have it even worse since we only have 6 seater options ,which actually make it more realistically a 4 seater.

Wishing for a 5 seater Alcazar at the same price (BMW 3 LWB strategy) - now that would have liberated acres of legroom and made it a super comfortable ride . Hyundai , pretty please

Re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

The Alcazar Signature Petrol AT seems so much value for money as compared to the Tucson Petrol GLS AT. With the same engine and transmission, the Alcazar is priced 4.25 lakh less (ex showroom) than the Tucson. And it still gets a host of additional features over the Tucson eg.
1. Ventilated seats.
2. Digital instrument cluster.
3. 360 degree camera.
4. Blind view camera.
5. Larger and more modern touchscreen infotainment.
The interiors also look so much more modern.
It seems that even Tucson buyers will be tempted to go for Alcazar now.

This makes me wonder is the Alcazar compromised in terms of body strength and structure or was the Tucson sold at higher margins?

I'd like to believe the latter - Alcazar probably carries the same build quality that of Creta and Tucson with a better build quality is sold at a premium.

The Crysta gives you more metal and value for the money. Hyundai India's manufacturing quality has certainly taken a nosedive. But we're talking van vs SUV. Those looking to avoid Tata & MG have a great alternative. Can't wait to see what Mahindra comes up with now.

What's the rationale for not offering the 1.4 GDi engine?

Petrol Ertiga is better buy and value for money than this in petrol avatar, period. For me, pricing is way to high. But still it will sell in good numbers.

Re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that:

1. The top-most diesel variant costs 20 lakh ex showroom.
2. And at that price you get an engine that makes less torque than a Tata Nexon.
3. And that too is while deliberately ignoring the C-SUV class leader XUV 300 which straight up makes 50Nm more.

I do not understand how an MPV is supposed to have such an underpowered engine at SUCH a price point!

Plus, on top of all this, no NCAP certification either.

Tucson is an international model sold globally including the US where the safety standards and competition are much higher. It definitely has a better build quality and higher kerb weight and has scored 5 stars in NCAP. Alcazar is just 80Kgs heavier than Creta as per Hyundai, and you can imagine they have done some serious weight saving techniques to achieve this. Naturally Alcazar/Creta wont be as much safe compared to Tucson, and these models are sold and targeted at developing markets in South east Asia only.

Hyundai used to advertise the kerb weight of all their models 10 years back, but this practice is not followed now.

I guess the differentiator for Alcazar will be its premium features such as cooled seats, sunroof, 360 degree camera, air purifier, wireless charger etc. At the same price point, the competition will offer you a bigger 2L diesel engine but the feature list will be basic.

Given that the Alcazar only weighs 80kg more than the Creta with two additional seats and a bigger body, it points more to the former i.e. Tucson probably has better build quality.

Re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

I had pre-booked the Alcazar Signature Petrol AT version few days back. Visited the showroom today to check a display car. Exterior of the car is very well proportioned. It is attractive on the eye. Front grille however is subjective (I am not a fan of it).

Inside features are amazing. Lots of gizmos (typical Hyundai).

Disappointing thing for me is the space management. Ingress and egress in general is cumbersome. Second row captain seats are not comfortable at all. Legroom is not that great. Also, the entire cabin feels too busy and congested. Third row space is non existent. Strictly for people < 5 ft. Even my 11 yr old daughter had her knees touching her chin.

I came out of the showroom and got into my 5 yr old S-Cross. And suddenly I realized how well managed S-Cross internal space is. Very well lit, good legroom and everything is so airy in my old car. I am getting a feeling that S-Cross to Alcazar move will be like downgrading from 5-seater car to a 4-seater car, that too by paying double to money.

Anyway, still have not given up completely on Alcazar. Will be checking the car again tomorrow before taking a final call. Wife likes the car.. so 70% of the decision is taken

And please do not make up your mind based on my views. I am 6ft 2in. So you know what is driving my observations.

Re: The 2020 Hyundai i20 : A Close Look & Preview

Went to the nearest Hyundai showroom today and had a look at the Alcazar though the TD vehicles are yet to be arrived as per the SA! Will post my initial impressions in the next post!

And, I got the on-road prices of the Alcazar as well!

Re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

Going through the news on the media, this one catches my attention. The reporter says that the Alcazar competes with the likes of the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV 500. So to say the MG Hector Plus and maybe the Kia Seltos could be its true rivals.

The Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV 500 have a much different clientiele. Though the Alcazar could be a choice for quite a few over the two Indian brand SUV' s, the dent in the demand for Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV 500 would not be that much perceptible due to the Alcazar's entry.

(1) The Tata Safari 1956 cc diesel only, with 168bhp and 350Nm of torque

(2) Mahindra XUV 500 2190 cc diesel only, generating 155 bhp and 360Nm of torque

The Zee News link:-

https://zeenews.india.com/automobile...s-2369958.html

Quote:

Hyundai can price the six variants of Alcazar between Rs 13 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. At this price point, the SUV will rival the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV500.
Rightly said, pricewise it truly rivals all the above listed SUV's, but most of the SUV's are priced in this range today, including the lower variants of the Toyota Innova Crysta.

Quote:

Alcazar is all set to rival the all-new 2021 Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus, among many other similar SUVs in the segment.

Hyundai Alcazar comes with a wheelbase of 2,760 mm, the longest in its segment. In comparison, the Tata Safari sports a wheelbase of 2,741 mm while MG Hector Plus comes with a 2,750 mm wheelbase.
The wheel base length too rightfully rivals these listed SUV's. But checking and comparing the wheelbase is not a very primary requirement for a car buyer. The buyer looks first and foremost for brand name, model, pricing on- road, dimensions, after sales service record, safety, the type of fuel he prefers and the engine capacity, power delivery, where the Alcazar diesel appears dismally underpowered for the diesel variants, that use the Creta 1493 cc/ 115 bhp/250 Nm torque engine.

And the Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV 500 do not offer petrol variants to compete with the more powerful 1999cc/ 159 bhp/191 Nm torque Alcazar petrol engine.

Hence let us see the real competition between the MG Hector Plus, Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Alcazar.

Re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

So another thing with regard to the prices of the Alcazar is that there is virtually not much of a difference between the Petrol and the Diesel, owing to the imbalance in the engine displacements. So either one picks a powerful and segment adequate Petrol, lives with the single digit fuel efficiency, or one has to opt for the underpowered diesel and live with the lack of power. Neither is a good option if you ask me, the Petrol’s efficiency would be just terrible, and one might end up spending a huge sum on monthly fuel bills. It probably makes sense only to the folks who have low running, mostly on self driving so that they can enjoy the additional power on offer.

Whereas the diesel may make sense to folks who have higher running and probably have a driver so they never directly experience the struggling engine when on full load.

If some one had to choose the Alcazar ( in spite of the Safari being around ) then the practical option is the diesel. Let’s face it, most such 7 seaters are usually used as 5 seaters most of the time, so in that case the engine may not be so bad.

My personal view is that the Safari makes better sense thru and thru, with like for like pricing, powerful diesel, and superb road presence. You may lose a few features here and there, else it’s a better buy for most reasons.

Re: 7-seater Hyundai Alcazar launching in June 2021. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 16.30 lakhs

The mid variant has most of the features like the 6 airbags. But the mid variant automatic only comes in 6 seater version with the third row space compromised so it realistically ends up being a 4 seater. In Delhi the otr price is ~23.5 lakhs. Doesn't feel much value for money.
Safari seems a better option, if only TATA can offer the same level of reliability as the Koreans.
