Tata Nexon XZ+ (S) with sunroof launched

Thanks to Rohit Sutar for sharing this information. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

Tata has silently introduced the Tata Nexon XZ+ (S) variant. It comes with a factory-fitted sunroof. The car is priced from Rs. 10,10,000 for petrol and Rs. 11,60,000 for the diesel. It sits between the XZ+ and the XZ+ (O) in the Nexon line-up.

The XZ+ (S) variant is based on the top-end XZ+ (O). They share all the features except the connected car technology features like iRA connected app, remote vehicle control, live vehicle diagnostics, vehicle live location and geo-fence, valet mode and trip analytics and tribes.

The new Nexon comes with BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit produces 118 BHP and 170 Nm, while the 1.5-litre diesel makes 108 BHP and 260 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT.

Variant-wise ex-showroom prices:

Petrol
XZ+ (S) - 10,10,000
XZ+ (S) Dual Tone - 10,30,000
XZ+ (S) AMT - 10,70,000
XZ+ (S) AMT Dual Tone - 10,90,000

Diesel
XZ+ (S) - 11,60,000
XZ+ (S) Dual Tone - 11,80,000
XZ+ (S) AMT - 12,20,000
XZ+ (S) AMT Dual Tone - 12,40,000

Wish they have such a variant for Harrier also which can be in the price point of current XZ.

Is this a paper only launch or have they actually started delivering BS6 nexon diesels?

Now that's a hit! Everything I need - auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers, TPMS, cruise control. Plus a sunroof (though I don't want one). It looks extremely VFM again.

Spot on variant.

Hope this trend continues of separating a top variant and top variant with 'connected features' , instead of bundling them in a single top variant.

Lots of people would want the features in the top variant without any of the 'connected ones' piggybacking on it.

Hope other manufacturers take a clue.

Great move by Tata Motors to make the Nexon even more flexible and popular. To be honest, I have not seen any car manufacturer putting in this much effort in recent times to make a product of theirs more appealing. The well laid out facelift, the engine power bump, this new variant and constant promotions are some amongst these very welcome efforts. Even during this lockdown period they have silently launched a new variant and has updated the Nexon Brochure with the new (S) variant details on their website.

Attaching the updated brochure for reference.

As per the Brochure the XZ+(S) and XZA+(S) variants only miss out on the following six features from the corresponding (O) variant.
 • iRA - Connected Technology App
 • Remote vehicle control through smartphone - headlights, lock & horn
 • Live vehicle diagnostics
 • Vehicle live location track & set geo-fence
 • Valet Mode
 • Trip analytics & Tribe

As per the price list, each version in its (O) variant carries a premium of 30K over the corresponding (S) variant.

A great move by Tata, however, slightly flawed. Couldn't they price it at 9.99 L to make the price truly mouthwatering considering the other associated costs with cars priced 10L & above.

Would have been great, yes. Maybe remove the sunroof and bring the price below 10L. But don't give them idea

Considering the popularity of useless sunroofs in India, they will remove some better & more useful feature and price it 9.99 then. Not a good thing.

Perfect! Finally someone getting the feature list spot on! This one should be a hit IMO. A car with all bells whistles & a sun roof - for those who don't want an eSIM and connected car features.

Perfect!

If you meant Triptronic, then it has something similar (considering the clutch pack is still there) in terms of a manual mode to select gears.

No paddle shifters though.

As far as I know, apart from the 1% tax (which we can claim during tax filing), what all other associated charges are you mentioning here? I just wanted to increase my knowledge since I'm in the dark here and couldn't find anything good online. Thanks in advance.

Actually, many states in the country have brackets for road tax and 10L being a rounded off number, for many states a car costing 10L is taxed higher than one costing 9.99L.

Some Examples:

Karnataka
Below 10L: 14% tax
Above it: 17%tax

Tamil Nadu
Below 10L: 10%
Above 10L: 15%

Maybe these stats are slightly erroneous. If anything is wrong, feel free to correct me.

PS: Completely off topic but, has the nexon facelift lost the five star safety rating ?? This question crops up in my mind because while they were earlier advertising it like hell, they do not even mention it anywhere now

Images from the old brochure:
3 pages mention about safety of which 2 boast of the 5 star rating boldly.
Tata Nexon XZ+ (S) with sunroof launched-20200410_004905.jpg

Images from the new brochure:
Only one page about safety that too does not even mention a 5 star rating.

Is Tata playing some dirty tricks here or my concerns are unfounded??

Request mods to separate the latter half of the post and move it to the apt thread if it is irrelevant to this thread.

Its mainly to do with jump in the roadtax amount, which is usually a % of the exshowroom cost.

A lot of states have road tax slabs that change at 10L.
Just an example -
Between 6-9.99L 10%
Between 10-19.99L 15%

So while Manufacturers may not get much from it, the tax outgo and the final price will jump as soon as you cross the 10 lakhs ex-showroom price. For cases when its close to 10 lakhs, its always good to see Manufacturers keeping it under 9.99L.

Thanks for spotting this so early. Does indeed raise some doubts specially when they are advertizing Tiago and Tigor's 4 * safety ratings everywhere.

How did I miss this??

have they done some structural changes and awaiting a re-test?

Mods please take a note...
