hi guys i just took the flair for a spin ..the test drive went horrible..1st the interior are very plastic and cheap..the quality of leather on the door trims are poor, the interior is very cramped up..my left leg kept on banging against the central pannel when ever i changed gear.shifting was very lousy and the A/C was not up to the mark( in comparision to the swift ).very very underpowered 1-2-3 after that felt some power.suspensions were good but the drive quality wasnt good..i mean it dnt make me smile...was disappointed so i booked the swift.

Josh is spelt "1.6".
The 1.3 / Flair is more of a commuter's car. For the chauffer driven, it's a decent vehicle. Anyway, though I still love it, it's time to say bye to the Ikon. I always thought it was more of a prequel to the real thing - the Fiesta and it did a good job.
The way our economy is moving, selling any outdated machine is like taking the people for a ride - read "dumping".

@fb1 is booked a swift Vdi(diesel top end)

@adity ya i have never driven any other ikno, and i guess this would be my 1st and last.even the rear seats small, even the drivers seat , felt a bit small ( in comparision to swift and esteem).
ford show take ikon off the road.should concentrate on quality in what ever they offer.

My dear Karizma, let me state that you made an excellent choice. The Swift is a great car. Congrats.

Well, if you havent driven the 1.6, let me assure you my friend that you missed out! (considering that you have driven your last ikon)

Yes, the Ikon has a few issues. But, unless you are a germanic 6 feet 8 inches in height, you will find that the ikon has great driver/passenger seat with just the right amount of bolstering for those long drives.

I do admit that the rear seats are a tight squeeze for 3 adults, but then again they offer decent legroom. Having owned the Esteem as well as an Ikon, let me also state that the rear seats in the Esteem are cramped and the driver's seat is uncomfortable, so much so that I had to get custom made seats!

I join you in pushing Ford to give us better quality in product and service. Once again, good decision on the swift. Enjoy your ride.

I took a test drive of the new IKON on Friday. I have driven a Escort before and felt the Ikon is much better on most aspects. This is what I could gather:

1. I see the plastic quality has been lowered compared to the old one.
2. The seats feel much better and offer good thigh support, still not as good as the Swift.
3. The beige interiors look decent. But I think its a pain maintaining them. The demo car has badly soiled door handles and cladding.
4. The demo car had alloys. When I drove above 60km/hr mark, there was loud tyre sounds. Felt irritating. The sales guy said the tyres are cold and hence the sound. I wasn't convinced.
5. Once I was belted up, its extremely difficult for me to reach out for the glove box and even the AC controls. Perhaps I am too short for the car.
6. The new dashboard and instrumentation looks nice, but the inverted position of the wiper and headlight switch displeases me.
7. The steering provides excellant grip and feel. Trust me, this car gives a better ride and handling than the Esteem.
8. The brakes are not as bad as mentioned by many tbhpians. Maybe it has been reworked.

At 5.35L (only for the basic model:alloys, spoilers music system extra) on road in chennai, this car is good value for money as against the Esteem and Indigo. Well Logan could be some serious competition to the Ikon.

plus the ergonomics and the driving pleasure.

i always liked the ikon. if i was not firm on a diesel hatchback, then i would have gone for an ikon.

Ikon is better car in its price band when things like quality of body build, ride quality, comfort of seats, legroom, refinement etc,. are considered. The general negatives quoted are fuel economy and high maintenace costs. But these too are not way behind when compared to swift/esteem. I own an ikon which gives 10 kmpl in city driving and 12-13 on highway with AC on everytime which is not bad. My ikon had done 35k kilometers and I havent had any issues with the car so far and its in very good condition. No major maintence expenditure so far.The drive pleasure with Ikon (I have a 1.6) is excellant and is far ahead when compared some of the cars in the same price band.

There is no better car for Ford than the Ikon to compete with the proposed low cost cars of the other manufacturers from toyota to chevrolet.

Dont think the Ikon would be put away so soon by ford.Besides the fiesta's main sales are mostly coming from its diesel variant and dont know how much interest the 1.4 petrol is generating. However if ford plan a TDCi ikon that's when things could get a little complicated.
