Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 priced from Rs. 28.69 lakh

The Mahindra Alturas G4 is now available with a BS6-compliant engine. The SUV comes with either 2WD or 4WD and is priced at Rs. 28.69 lakh and Rs. 31.69 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.

The Alturas G4 is powered by a BS6-compliant 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 178 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 420 Nm @ 1,600-2,600 rpm. It is paired with a Mercedes-Benz sourced 7-speed automatic gearbox and gets four-wheel-drive functionality.

Apart from the engine, Mahindra has made no other changes to the Alturas G4. The SUV comes with HID headlamps and diamond cut alloy wheels. It has dual-tone interiors with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit.

The Alturas G4 is equipped with 9 airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, ESP, active rollover protection, hill start assist, hill descent control, traction control and ISOFIX child safety seat anchor points.

This one totally underrated cars in India. It has more features than competitors and is priced 4-5 lakhs cheaper as well. However, thanks to being an Indian brand it is not selling well. Most of the mass people in India do not know that is just a rebadged version of Ssangyong Rexton. Maybe it would have pulled more crowd if it was released as a Ssangyong product.

It is longer, wider, and taller than the Fortuner (un-official neta cars in India). It is a great car which deserves better from us. Unfortunately the sales number are so low, I even doubted if Mahindra would give it a BS6 avatar. Looks like they want to continue with it.

Sensible pricing. Mahindra had to undercut the rivals. It obviously doesn't sell like T-Fort or Endy but scores decent numbers month on month. However if one is looking for spacious 7 seater then this will not fit as the last row is cramped compared to its other competitors.
This one has very well appointed interiors and that's one of the reason why it still sells.
One funny thing is this car is longer than its competitors on paper but to some people including me it appears shorter, maybe the deign cues are like that.

With Mahindra trying to remove their investment in Ssangyong, how will the market further react? Despite being a competitive product, it anyways wasn't that successful due to Ford/Toyota offerings.

The people in India are a wary lot. Thats why they stick to the Fortuner/Endeavour most of the time. And also thats why it is so difficult for a new product(even if its good) to get accepted.

They have offered a 3 lac discount on the G4 and I guess once across the table, they would probably add a few more freebies, as don't think can sell many in these trying times and also the impending exit of Mahindra from Ssangyong..

According to a car news website, the first bs6 compliant Alturas G4 has been delivered to the president bhavan.

This was later confirmed by a senior official at M&M on twitter.

If Mahindra priced it at 23-27L, it would cut through the sales of Fortuner and Endeavour like a hot knife through butter, but well. Who are we to demand prices? We're just customers and nothing more. We'll pick up whatever these companies and our government throw at us.

Well priced. Hope it sells.

The platform is decent and hope Mahindra can make facial changes in the future to keep the model running. Nothing hurts a car owner more than to see his or her model being discontinued. Tata cars have an abysmal resale value because of this- 4 year old Safaris are cheaper than first gen XUV500s in most cities. Hope Mahindra can avoid this

I also wish they got the same attention as the Gloster, but that's not the case sadly.
