BMW has launched the 8 Series Gran Coupe in India. The car is available in two variants, standard and M Sport Edition priced at Rs. 1,29,90,000 and Rs. 1,55,00,000 (ex-showroom) respectively.



The 8 Series Gran Coupe is a four-door sedan based on the new 8 Series. The car features a coupe-style roofline and frameless doors. At the front, it has a twin-kidney grille flanked by slim headlights. At the rear, it has wraparound LED tail lights and a sport exhaust system.

On the inside, the 8 Series Gran Coupe comes with a driver-focused cockpit with electrically adjustable sports seats. It has 40:20:40 split seats in the rear and the car comes with ambient lighting, and a panoramic glass roof. The rear luggage compartment has a capacity of 440 litres.

The M Sport Edition comes equipped with BMW Lazer Lights, different exterior paint options and M Aerodynamic package, which includes extra-large air intakes, side skirts, rear apron with diffuser, 19-inch M light alloy wheels, M badges, two chrome exhaust tips among others. Inside, the car gets multi-functional seats for driver and front passenger and M leather steering wheel.

The 840i Gran Coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder engine that produces 335 BHP @ 5,000-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,600-4,500 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The car comes with adaptive suspension and M Sport Differential.

IMHO, they've overpriced it. Especially the M Sport addition. 335 BHP for close to 2 CR OTR? Cmon BMW! You kinda nailed pricing with the M2. This is a let down.

Overpriced it like anything! The same 40i engine comes in the new X5 albeit making 50nm less torque. Even the differential between the regular and M-sport variant is staggering.

What Bmw could have done instead is bring the 540i to India when launching the facelift via the CKD route and price it similar to the 530d and launch the M850i for the price of the 840i Msport. It's just sad to see that Bmw India doesn't have a single M-performance variant in India(barring the M760li) and nor do they have their S55 40i engine in a sedan form(540i or M340i). I feel they'll be a good number of takers if they were to launch their S55 in either state of tune(M340i/540i) given that other performance vehicles in the segment have seen good response.(AMG India Sales grew by 54% last year)

I agree! The 340i/540i will have a lot of takers! The 340i could have been an ideal attainable dream car for a lot of people.

For people who have the knowledge, do performance car makers like Audi, Merc, BMW take their time to listen to India customers or do they just go with their own whim?
