Nissan discontinues Micra, Sunny in India; lists only 2 cars

Nissan has removed the Micra, Micra Active as well as the Sunny from its Indian website. At present, only two cars are listed on the website - the upcoming BS6 Kicks and the GT-R.

Even if Nissan silently exits India, it won't be missed except by Nissan owners. Looks like Nissan is in India just for "Kicks"!

Aren't they looking to launch a new Sub 4M SUV? Also 1.3L Turbo version of Kicks has started gaining interests from enthusiasts. Sunny and Micra are too old anyway!

This is great. Both the models were old and there really wasn't any customers wanting them for a long time now. Ideally, they should start a big marketing campaign about the Nissan brand itself when they launch that CSUV. Nissan is now no more in the consideration set for a lot of people. A big marketing spend is the first thing they should do if they want to revive their fortunes.

Non enthusiasts are not even aware that there's a car called Kicks on sale. Same goes with Captur. Both these cars had ads on TV, but still no one noticed them.

Enthusiasts in India create buzz about powerful cars but no one actually goes and buys them. The interest remains only on paper.
There wasn't any demand for Abarth Punto or Baleno RS or Tiago JTP and all of these have been discontinued.

Kicks never sold well when it had a Diesel. I expect sales to go down even further, as its Petrol only now, and there are more modern alternatives and due to the Covid19 pandemic.

Nissan might as well shut down its operations in India, if they don't plan to launch proper 'Nissan' products.

I hope Nissan brings back these cars in their modern avatar. These cars were were not extra ordinary but were likeable for their mechanical robustness and offering necessary equipments which a modern car should have.

This is because they are not BS 6 compliant. They cannot be listed for sale now.

Re: Nissan discontinues Micra, Sunny in India; lists only 2 cars

This is hardly surprising. The question that begs to ask is why was the plug not pulled earlier? What were the Nissan honchos thinking? There would be a magical uptick in sales of these two relics from the past?

The Micra CVT was a good car. I know an owner who has it for 5 years now & while he is happy with the car, he wonders what will happen if Nissan exits India. What killed this car was a very high launch price. It hardly sold, then dealers resorted to heavy discounting, effectively killing the model.

This is a story which will shut down anytime. How can the dealerships survive with a model which hardly even sells? Same with the service stations.

Re: Nissan discontinues Micra, Sunny in India; lists only 2 cars

If someone now visits the Nissan website to check out their cars, out of the two cars listed-

One is coming soon

Another costs over 2 crores

They better add whatever is coming up soon to their portfolio on their website. Not many have Nissan in their plans as it is, they won't even make another visit to their website!.

Re: Nissan discontinues Micra, Sunny in India; lists only 2 cars

Bad marketing apart, the micra was a charm to drive in its peppy petrol avatar. Far better than the swift in almost all aspects. The Sunny did have a fair number of takers in its early years, though do I agree that both the cars had rather dated looks as well interiors for the current generation.

Re: Nissan discontinues Micra, Sunny in India; lists only 2 cars

Both were very capable cars led down by poor after sales service and lack of support from the company.
Micra was so much easy to drive in the city and one of the best diesel engines with minimal turbo lag. On the other hand sunny , sold well in initial times but due to lack of feature addition and after sales was bound to flop. It had a legroom which put D2 segment cars to shame.

Re: Nissan discontinues Micra, Sunny in India; lists only 2 cars

The story of Nissan worldwide continues- they are just not strong enough to compete against Honda/Toyota/Hyundai-Kia. Wonder why they haven't yet exited India?

Unlike Suzuki which gave up USA for India, SE Asia, and Europe, I can't think of a single niche market for Nissan.

Incorrect.

Lists two (or three) cars depending on how you see it.

One is coming soon (magnite)
One is already on sale in a BS6 avatar (Kicks)
And one costs 2 crore

I think you confused coming soon as kicks, which it isnt.

We have recently took possession of Pre-owned Nissan Teana 250XV. We were suprised with the level of Comfort and performance.

Hope Nissan comes up with new products for India
