The car seen in these patent images is the hatchback version of the Yaris. It features a trapezoidal grille, large sweptback headlamps and redesigned fog lamp pods. At the rear, the car gets wraparound tail lamps and a dual-tone bumper. The B and C-pillars are painted black to give a floating roof effect.

In India, Toyota offers the Yaris sedan. It is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 106 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed CVT with paddle shifters.

While the Yaris hatchback is unlikely to come to India, similar updates could be seen on the sedan in the future.

This is what Toyota should have sold instead of the Glanza.

Re: Toyota Yaris facelift (hatchback) patent images leaked

This is quite old news. I remember seeing Yaris hatchback videos way back in 2017-18 when Toyota Yaris launch was in the news.

Looks exactly like Yaris with a hatchback boot and black interiors. Maybe the roof mounted blower AC is absent too.

EDIT: Oh this is the 2021 version. Got it.

Re: Toyota Yaris facelift (hatchback) patent images leaked

This reminds me of the design equivalent of when someone used to squeeze the sides of your face so that you pucker up.

It is a very popular car in the US and I have driven it around. No big wow factor but then again, it's a Toyota - it's USP in the rental car arena was solid reliability and frugal economy. Both which I felt about the car having it around for a week or so.

Re: Toyota Yaris facelift (hatchback) patent images leaked

Toyota Kirloskar can use this opportunity to revive the Yaris in India by bringing the facelift early with Safety features comparable to Honda City and pricing it substantially lower than City. As Yaris is already a competent product all it requires is very competitive pricing for atleast 2 years for scaling up the numbers. Increasing market share would help Toyota in planning for a hybrid version. With the present numbers, introducing Hybrid would not be a viable option. The pricing of Honda City should be an eye opener for Toyota.

I really like the redesigned front bumper. Looks much better than the current generation one and even makes it look modern.

There seems to be no changes to the side profile. Any snap showing the rear end?

Yet another Toyota trying on the Lexus style grille pattern. Chiseled styling around fog lamps looks good & the bumper seems to be making the car look a tad bigger, so it works! Will this face-lift make it to India any time soon I wonder. Does Toyota find a value in keeping on investing in this dud? Or its about time to launch a Toyota Ciaz instead?

The alloy design looks pretty good IMO. Simple yet stylish.

Toyota like Ford(Fiesta sedan) should have just launched the hatchback version instead of sedan to compete with the i20 with the current Yaris's engine here.

I hope they improve the performance of Yaris.
They are launching the performance version of Yaris in West, but guess Indians will have to do with mediocre performance but good reliability as usual from Toyota.

Re: Toyota Yaris facelift (hatchback) patent images leaked

IMO, the Yaris was good as it was - with it's plane-jane design, simple alloys & safe styling. However, this one makes me feel that Toyota surely does love its SUVs, MUVs and Trucks because they are the good-lookers. Take the updated Fortuner, looks so much more than the outgoing version. The last sedan from Toyota which looked good was the '13 Altis preceded by the Etios. The Yaris was never a looker, but this update has just made it worse.

Re: Toyota Yaris facelift (hatchback) patent images leaked

I think there was nothing wrong with the Yaris except it’s height to width ratio. Same problem with Xcent. Both look too narrow to elicit any feeling of premium-ness associated with sedans. I doubt if, with the new model that shortcoming would be addressed and it’s poor run would likely continue. A good looking sedan must be squat- wide and short. Just look at the new Dzire, though a segment down but very proportionate and hence also widely accepted.

It's interesting to see that it still doesn't have Android Auto and Apple car play. It still feels the same plane jane car like with previous generation and the only change I can recognize is the front bumper. I believe Honda city even comes with a turbo petrol option in those markets. Is Toyota such a dominant brand in south east Asia that they can get away with this or are their product managers smoking narcotics?
