Re: Maruti launches PPE & car care accessories for Covid-19

I love how this entire pandemic is now acting as a business opportunity. Especially they managed to get this into the automotive industry. Whenever I scroll through facebook I only see people selling masks, designered masks, gloves, sanitizers, face shield. What's left is a full body suit fixed with an oxygen tank.

I am sorry, But COVID 19 requires the hype it deserves. Not to start an argument and not trying to steer this thread to some other direction. But my colleague has lost his dad to this infection and his mother is serious and is on life support. He himself is on quarantine and is unable to take care of his mother and couldn't even see his dead father or perform last rites being the only son. This is serious and SHTF scenarios are yet to come with restrictions gleefully opened up to make life resume back to normal. The toll this is going to take on the country in the coming months cant be explained.

So yeah, Good that the companies are commercializing.
Hey, make hay when the sun shines right? Everyone wants a piece of the pie.

its a cheap solution and will be cheaper in local market.

Maruti also has launched for cars which are heavily used as cabs, like old wagonR, ertiga, celerio etc and have not launched for Swift, baleno, ciaz etc which are used as private cars mostly.
Indeed. Got this notification from Ola just now:

How does the partition protect the passenger. I doubt it will protect the passenger as the same air is recirculated via the AC fan.

I took a cab today afternoon to a friend's house since there is no parking space near his place.

The Ola cab that turned up was a Dzire and it had that plastic sheet thing on. The sheet is held is place by a velcro strip that catches onto the roof fabric; however it has no fasteners at the bottom and neither does it reach all the way to the bottom.

Delhi today was hot and muggy in the day and needless to say the ac was losing the battle to cool the rear. After sweating for 10 mins, i told the driver to remove the curtain to which he readily complied.

His point was simple: some customers refuse to get into the cab if the curtain is not in place but then they complain it is too hot and blame the car ac for not doing its job! The sheet simply does not let cold air to flow towards the back and hence the driver feels cold and sets the blower to a lower speed. This exacerbates the already dismal cooling situation at the back.

On a separate note, the cabs on both my journeys were cleaner than what i last saw of Ola/Uber in the pre covid days. The drivers on both occasions handed out generous squirts of some chemical that smelled like white spirit before i got in and then we set off.

Re: Maruti launches PPE & car care accessories for Covid-19

I cannot find the face visor listed on the website. At Rs 55 it seems priced well. I bought few at Rs 150 from a local contact of mine. :(

Can someone please point me to some online URLs for disposable gloves, shoe covers, sanitizer sprays and face visors? Thanks

The extra safety is very much welcomed. Think about airbags in our rides. No one will ever want to use. Having more than two gives assurance of better safety.
Or
Is it I drive slow and carefully, won’t need the extras!?

You can easily get those in MGA section of any Maruti dealer. Slowly they are stocking all of them. Even workshops are stocking them and selling over the counter without any objection.

Shashi

Re: Maruti launches PPE & car care accessories for Covid-19

I don't think the use of AC is factored into this nor it is applicable. The directive here, from the health department was such that taxi could ply provided they don't use AC and keep the windows rolled down. There used to be restriction on passenger numbers earlier but that is lifted since, I guess. We have used cabs for picking up guests for our company and those taxis had these plastic partitions and the cab providers themselves clarified beforehand that AC will not be used. I don't think any disinfectant can decontaminate/ sterilize recirculating air effectively, unless inside a lab with sophisticated methodologies.

On one hand I appreciate Maruti for providing custom made protection gear for their models which ensures perfect fit and finish and on the other hand I cannot shy away from the sentiment that they have used this as an opportunity to extract revenue from the already cash stressed cab market. At least will they provide it FOC to new cab purchase? I don't think so.
