Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

Voted - YES.
People are more familiar with the Creta-Hyundai combination than Kia-Seltos. Hyundai has more footprint across the country and also has trump card with the panoramic sunroof which the masses like.

Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

The Great Conundrum!!

IMO there are a few factors that have a bearing on which car one finally buys viz-a-viz wishes/recommends others to buy.
  • Budget Factor. Insignificant margin between the two.
  • Head Factor. The aspect of reliability, Safety features, service backup, mileage, ownership review of the brand, availability of back end support/spare availability and resale value. Its Hyundai all the way here.
  • Look Factor. Now then the big debate of looks. It’s a no brainer that Exteriors-Kia and Interiors-Creta. So if its exterior that matter cars like Zen (when launched in tall boy avatar), Swift (initial response to it at launch), Dzire and the likes should have banned and Harrier should be highest selling in its segment. But eventually when a Car sells a lot, gets more visible everywhere the looks drift towards neutral. That is to say, a great looker doesn’t seem that great and an awful one becomes more acceptable. Thus, eventually the look factor becomes less important. Thus, Creta’s exterior looks that are not acceptable to most will drift to wards normal as well, the fact that it has better interiors further helps this cause.
  • Environment Factor. The environment here means the advice you receive from others. Its Seltos that wins here. But these ‘others’ are not the ones buying, so its what they feel and it is primarily not the make or break factor. Afterall, its not them spending the dough.
  • Those Who Matter Factor. Well then, for the young, the mid aged and seniors, the family/close friends who will be often be in the same car with them, its the factors that they see in the car from their perspective. It is where the interiors get an edge over exteriors. So the inside feel gains more significance. The same is true for the chauffeur driven as well.
  • Oomph Factor. Finally the Oomph factor that makes you go Wow! Yes both cars have few exclusive features but the Oomph factor rests with the Panoramic Sunroof. Its true, so no other feature will make all sitting in the car go WOW! The driver oriented features(heads up display or paddle shifts) despite being more important but for your kids, wife, family, friend/girlfriend .. from whom you seek an acknowledgement both during the test drives and subsequently it is this Oomph. And mind you it is important for all of us.
  • The Brand Factor. KIA has surely made a mark but its early days still. Duster when launched was hot cake but faded away and Renault has not become a pie eater. Uno for Fiat or for that matter Chevorlet or VW have not been able to come close to Maruti/Hyundai. Okay, granted that things look more promising for Kia but then, there is a doubt and it is like the elephant in the room. People who have already bought the Seltos before the Creta was launched and those going for Seltos now are just keeping their fingers crossed. There is no dearth of cars or movie stars who have been one launch wonders and then history.
  • Commenting and Committing. IMO when commenting you may only weigh the tangibles and correctly so, but when it come to buying/committing the intangibles come to fore and that is where Creta will be preferred by the majority.

It's going to be a Creta that will sell more and that too by a considerable margin.

Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

Voted for Hyundai Creta. Though I would go for either Honda City VX or Jeep Compass for that price, but between these 2, Seltos over Creta for the driving dynamics, below is what goes in favor of Creta:

1. Hyundai ASS is seasoned and have good experience dealing with Indian customers. Kia cannot even come close to this easily.
2. Creta was the top seller in that segment and hence more trust than a newer brand. Though technically they both share the same engine.
3. Hyundai as a brand is much more reliable than Kia right now. Also not to ignore the issues with Seltos last year like car catching fire, engine being replaced for few, which has been catastrophic to its image.
4. New, though not subtle design of Creta. Appeals to mass market as a different design than most of the cars on road.
5. Sunroof which is the biggest in the segment as well as the one above. Indians are crazy about sunroofs.
6. Better quality of interiors than Seltos.

P.S. No offense to either Creta or Seltos fans. Just my 2 cents here. I do not like any of the above cars though.

Hyundai has the dealer network advantage, and there are many satisfied Hyundai customers who will only consider a “Hyundai”. Being a newer model, the Creta will enjoy an initial spurt in sales too. But over a period of 1 - 2 years, I will have to vote for NO. Reason = there is actually nothing to choose between them, other than the styling & small changes here and there. Now, when it comes to styling, you can say that the Seltos is neutral and will appeal to 9 out of 10 buyers. But the Creta is way too ugly! Hyundai's polarising design language might win over 50% of the market, but the other 50% will hate it. It's literally a love-it-or-hate-it design, which is never a good idea in the volume segments.

It is the Creta's weird styling that just gave the Seltos a major advantage.
On the contrary Hyundai does have a huge ace up its sleeve. Voice activated Panoramic sunroof! Indians love sun roof, and being a panaromic one is icing on the cake, being a voice activated one is like a fat reducing cake

That said, I really like the interiors of the Creta much more than seltos. Seltos probably has the exterior styling as a vow factor now, however, into the future, when there is a seltos at every nook and corner, this vow factor would be reduced. This can be a major negative for it. I don't know if it's just me, but gradually I have started feeling the design has too many cuts and creases and won't stand the test of time. I still like the design, but not as much as when I first saw it.

No.
Give the Seltos a panaromic sunroof and it can make Creta disappear.
Outgoing creta with a panaromic sunroof and minor tweaks could have done much better.

The same can also be said of new Creta. If too many Cretas get sold, like previous gen, won't the wow factor (whatever little there is) die down here, too? I agree with KunalMadaan. If Seltos gets a pano-roof, it will be curtains for Creta. No matter how hard I try, I just can't bring myself to like Creta. As a product it may be good but Hyundai did give it a quirky look.

Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

Voted No.

Reasons listed below:

1. Infused more technology in Creta which is prone to electronic failures/malfunctions.
2. Headlights more like a combination of Tata Harrier with a jaw dropped headlight which is completely non-sync.
3. Acceleration of Seltos is way better than the new Creta.
4. At the premium price tag, Creta interior feels a little cheap and that is the scoring point for Seltos.
5. Dual tone dashboard, ventilated seats are missing in Creta in comparison to Seltos.

Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

Had to vote No!

Last gen Creta with its neutral and clean looks, lost its volume when Seltos got launched. With the new gen's polarising design, it is near impossible for the Creta to become the segment leader again.

Infact, Hyundai will be satisfied, if they could hold on to the second place atleast and it is definitely possible with Maruti not having a real deal in this segment anyways.

Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

I have been seeing a lot of Kia seltos in the Delhi NCR region.

However, I traveled to Punjab via road yesterday and was surprised to see so many new Hyundai Creta on the roads. Much more than the seltos'

So, I believe that the brand 'Creta' has a great recall value and that top of the line model with the huge sunroof, does bring in buyers to the showrooms, even if they buy the lowest variant.

Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

Voted yes.

1. The only reason being that Hyundai's dealer network is far ahead of Kia.

2. Also it is an established brand with millions of cars out there on our roads since 2 decades now. All that goodwill would play a role with many buyers opting in for the Creta over the Seltos.

3. A very minor factor, but few buyers would opt for the Creta for that panoramic sunroof. Although I expect Kia to correct this with a facelift.

Having said that, I would personally pick the Seltos over the Creta just for the looks.

A more interesting statistic would be to see the percentage of car's sold per dealership. I believe this may show the real picture and Kia might be quite close if not ahead of Hyundai in this parameter.

Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

Probably the Creta will outsell the Seltos, purely due to the longer association that the brand Hyundai has in the Indian market and the consequent perceived reliability that the cars have garnered over the years.

Though I cannot, for the life of me, digest the UGLY looks of the new Creta, yet, I am certain the Indian consumer, blinded by herd mentality over the Hyundai Creta brand, will vote in favour of the Creta with their wallets.

Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

The Creta will outsell. Clearly outsell the Seltos.
1. It's a Hyundai!
2. It's a Creta!!
3. Panoramic Sunroof aha!!
4. Hyundai's further reach!
5. Creta has become a household name for a small SUV.
6. Even though the design language is a personal taste(I've not yet developed a liking for it) but it seems to be what the public likes. Have you guys gone to a hyundai showroom and seen what people are muttering to each other while checking the car out!
7. Dealer network of Kia is new. They're not exactly setup to take up the whole volume. They will take up time ramping up the service and repair demands. Whereas Hyundai already knows how to handle large amount of service and repair. So general public will be more at peace of mind.
8. It's a Hyundai Creta with a Panoramic Sunroof!!!

Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

In this case it's not just Hyundai vs Kia. It's actually Creta vs Kia and Seltos.

Just as Hyundai is a brand, Creta is a brand in itself which has tremendous trust. I voted a definite yes.

Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

I voted for Creta. No offense against Seltos, its an amazing product. But Creta went a step ahead by adding exciting interiors in the form of panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brakes and paddle shifters. Plus love the way touchscreen system is smoothly integrated in the dashboard. Believe Creta will outsell Seltos as Indian consumers will go behind the feel good features and that too from an established brand like Hyundai

Re: Sibling Rivalry! Will the 2020 Hyundai Creta outsell the Kia Seltos?

Look at both the creta and the seltos from outside and seltos appears a no brainer choice. Get inside the cabin and creta spells it's magic. As you can't have best of both worlds, make up your own mind.
Still confused- there is something called the Nissan kicks.
