Kerala's sales of "others" is nearly double to that of the nearest state. Kerala may be the biggest market for cars like Figo, Altroz etc.

Kerala seems to favour international brands like VW, Toyota and even Ford compared to Maruti. Has the large expatriate population got something to do with it.

Don't think the Swift can hold on to the numbers any more this year. It doesn't come in a diesel anymore. The Swift Diesel is an emotion in Kerala. Infact, any car with a Fiat 1.3L Multijet would sell in great numbers. Used diesel Marutis have very high resale value. Without diesels, Maruti sales will go down here.

VW and Toyota have large number of service centers and dealers throughout Kerala. Polo, Vento, Innova, Fortuner, and Etios are favorites among the people. Even Jeep has a good fan following.

VW will lose considerable market share without diesels in their lineup. VAG should get the 2 liter diesel engine and if possible the 1.6 TDi Euro 6.

Ford Figo/Aspire/Freestyle have a good diesel engine, I expect Figo sales to increase from now.

Re: State-wise Car Sales Data of India - April 2019 to March 2020 (FY20)

Some analysis of my state (Punjab)

1: The Tata Nexon does not sell. At all. The brand Tata has literally zero brand value here. The Amritsar Tata deealer literally operates out of a 20ft x 20ft shop. And given that there is zero hype for the Altroz, and it doesnt even figure on the list of contendors, I dont see that changing in the near future either.

2: Mahindra, on the contrary, has a very strong following, and thats evident by the XUV 300 sales numbers.

3: The Hyundai i20, again is something thats very popular here. Infact Punjab is the only state where the Baleno is in third position, behind both Swift and i20.

4: The i20 sales figures in both Delhi as well as Kerala are abnormally low. Hyundai should be worried. Or maybe not, since a new one is around the corner.

Re: State-wise Car Sales Data of India - April 2019 to March 2020 (FY20)

Very interesting and educating data, thanks @volkman10 for the same.

* Overall biggest market for Maruti seems to be the northern part of India.
* Most of the southern states seem to prefer Venue over Brezza.
* Kerala seems to have the most diverse taste with almost all products selling in good numbers.
* TN even though known for the Auto industry presence is lacking in local consumption

Excellent data. Do you have the Excel sheets. I would love to know sales per capita. Telangana has a population of 3.5 crores and Andhra Pradesh has 5 crores while Telangana has nearly double the sales of compact SUV compared to its neighbour.

Thanks, but these numbers do not tie up with that as per September 2020 Sales numbers. Almost 3 lakh cars are billed from factory as per that data.

Now, I know the reasons, let's not discuss those in length here, but still over-reporting by 50% would automatically cause heartburn to Banks & Financial Institutions.

Just reiterating, these are the retail numbers while Sept-20 sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealers. (Also these retail numbers do not account for certain states mentioned)
It is normal that in festive season, dealers get more cars as an anticipation for higher sales.
