Today on my way to college I spotted this Merc S320 CDI which was partly covered. Got few snaps.
The driver recognised m taking photos and tried to get away from me, but combination of Matiz's manuverobility and Pune traffic was just too much for him. :p

Anyway here are pictures. Car is with test number plates, so definately Mercedes is testing this car with Indian made common rail engine.

Aha, Superb find there Adya. Yes, Mercedes is indeed looking at selling the S320 CDI here.

I also think there will be a good demand for it. Surprisingly at that price!

Good find there.

Indian made common rail diesel engine? Interesting to know details of that.

Sharp!! Thanks for sharing the pics.
But this was some time expected. Infact there is some unofficial waiting list here at the merc dealer. Some even paid up full price before the car is launched. (Rumours, maybe). ;)

That is a very nice find adya, its amazing in India how much diesel has influenced us.

An ML 320 CDi is also being launched was what I heard a while back[using the same engine as the E 280 CDi,however that would be tuned accordingly].

Mercedes is on a testing spree. This was undergoing homologation too, around a month ago.

Adya, how do we know that the engine is Indian-made? Also what are those bluish strips stuck to the rear fender of the car?

Considering that other common rail engines for Mercedes are Indian made, you can safely say that it will be Indian made.
And those bluish strips must be there to protect bumpers from bad traffic of Pune.

It could also be a car imported for customers. The blue strips and all are present on new prestige cars while transporting if i am not mistaken.

This should be pretty economical to run compared to the petrol. However rich you are it will still pinch a little i guess.

I just came back now after filling in petrol and there saw a new S class. took 93lts of petrol. I just asked the guy how many kms you did on the tank. He tells me just short of 500kms in city traffic.
