Dealers have no clue about the availability of display vehicle itself, let alone deliveries. While I am sure the ongoing strike at the Bidadi plant is a factor, the cold-shoulder attitude from TKM is not surprising or new. Even their dealers have the same "take it or leave it" attitude when it comes to sales. Not sure how long can they ride the decade-old wave of the Fortuner or the fizzling out Innova. There is nothing else they have on offer right now, but for rebadged Marutis.

As per this article, only the Legender gets a higher spec engine whereas the facelift continues with same engine options.

While the news of Fortuner facelift being officially launched on 6th Jan 2021 is all over the internet, none of the dealers here in Bangalore seem to have a clue about it. All they have to say is "We do not have any official communication from TKM yet, regarding the launch". Not sure what is going on!

Are dealers in other cities better informed?

How apt is it to call this a "new generation" when all Toyota is doing is a mild facelift?

And the 'new generation' fortuner will continue to rake in the numbers notwithstanding the fact that it is merely facelift because there is no real competition in the segment.

What remains to be seen is the extra amount that Toyota is going to charge for this "new generation" Fortuner, especially if they end up offering the 2.8 lit engine in its higher state of tune. However, going by the promos, the focus appears to be on the Legender, which will be the "halo" model for Toyota, lack of 4wd option notwithstanding.

All sound goods until the come out with the pricing and I am sure it will be expensive, Maybe 43lacs OTR Delhi.

I did try to do some research for the New Fortuner launched in various countries so far and below is what i could find out -

Thailand - Normal facelift and Legender, both are launched, while only Legender gets the uprated engine with advanced drive tech (pre collision, lane departure & dynamic cruise control) + 4x4 AT

Australia - Only Normal Facelift launched with all advanced drive tech along with uprated engine and 4x4 AT option

South Africa - Same as Australia

Vietnam - Both Normal & Legender versions launched with no manual option in either (only AT). They get uprated engine in higher tune versions of both with advanced drive tech & 4x4. Also the price diff in the top spec normal vs legender is almost 1.5 Lacs when converted to INR

What I am trying to say is, it will be really strange if TKM India chooses to let go of all the advanced drive tech or the 4x4 in the Legender. It will take away the go-anywhere badge from it!

Also, per my contacts here in Toyota Lucknow, TKM might launch just 1 version of the 2 facelifts and that being the Legender. While I do not believe that myself but it may make sense if the Legender is what TKM is calling the new Gen Fortuner!

Apologies, Vietnam offers just 1 version in MT with 2.4L engine.

Toyota will launch both the facelifts; regular facelift and the Legender. They are advertising on social media as well. See the lights are different in both the advertisements.

Agreed, but not just the higher spec engine, other rivalling features like diff locks and Toyota Safety Sense as well. (obv in 4x4 avatar )
