2021 Toyota Fortuner Facelift spied undisguised in India. EDIT: Now Launched at Rs. 29.98 lakhs

Mod Note: Our Toyota Fortuner Facelift Report has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

The standard version of the 2021 Fortuner has been spied in test in India, it is the sigma 4 version. Hoping we get the updated 2.8L diesel with added power and torque. I am expecting the 2.4L diesel also to make it to India this time around to keep the starting price lower.

Also another interesting bit is that the test mule bears HR plates whereas usually Toyota cars have KA plates.2021 Toyota Fortuner Facelift spied undisguised in India. EDIT: Now Launched at Rs. 29.98 lakhs-1a9f704796be47dc82c5b0bb9d95fa0c.jpeg

The sad part of this means we might not get the Legender, then this new one apart from the new infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto has nothing much to offer over the existing one.

Mod Note - Please quote ONLY the relevant bits of a post. Quoting a full, long post inconveniences our mobile readers. Thanks!

I hope Toyota launches the Legender version also.
Apart from the looks, feature differences are only few eg: 9-inch touchscreen (Legender) vs 8-inch(standard), 360 deg camera(this will definitely be added to the feature list legender or standard as this is currently available as an accessory ), 20inch rims of the Legender make no sense in India so 17 or 18s are better, the instrument cluster was a bit different in the Legender as compared to the standard one and ambient lighting seen in the interior pics of the Legender in Thailand other than these differences everything is same.
I just hope Toyota remains in it’s senses and prices it close to the current car.

My Toyota Sales consultant just confirmed the facelift will come by end 2020.

Will this 2021 Fortuner get that Panoramic sunroof which the competition has been offering for a long time now?

Since this is not a new generation car and based on the current gen the AC vents and ducts are on the roof where the panoramic sunroof is usually placed, hence it isn't getting one.

But at least a sunroof is expected by everyone at this price considering all it's rivals get one.

If I recall correctly, Maruti cars used for media drives also bear the HR26 plates as seen in many reviews. Probably some sort of arrangement between Toyota and Maruti to test near NCR as BS6 fuel may not be available at all places yet due to the lockdown imposed since March.
Edit: Found D-Bhpian //M's post. It seems test cars of Maruti also bear HR26.

I love the new grill design. It definitely adds a touch of luxury and sportiness to the car. I am guessing they will launch the 2.4L engine at current market prices and further launch a 2.8L engine with all the added features. Just like they with the Innova.

The front grill carries the logo but the not the alloy wheel hubs. Logo from the rear is partially masked.

Toyota will launch this at an attractive price compared to the current prices and within six months increase it beyond the current prices. Toyota Brand loyal customers queue up to buy it and history repeats.

If I had a chance to add anything from this facelift Fortuner to my 2017 model, that would be just the front grill(Which I hope can be swapped), I think it looks better than the existing one. I never missed any features that are anticipated like android auto, larger screen, Wireless charging etc. Though they are good to have, but not a must have.

And I think Toyota might skip the sunroof on this facelift as well.

re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner Facelift spied undisguised in India. EDIT: Now Launched at Rs. 29.98 lakhs

Well Toyota test cars used to have "KA" registration plates as the cars were made in the Bidadi Plant off Bangalore, even the new Glanza is made there now, as a part of their recent deal with MSIL, are they using the MSIL plant at Manesar to make this new Fortuner?

its just my guess.

With all the testing equipments, guess it's some regulatory stuff.

Pollution testing maybe? Pray it's the uprated 201 bhp version.

The 2.4l version would make sense only if there a good cut in prices.
If it's anything like what TKM did with the previous gen Fortuner, don't bother bringing the 2.4l.

TKM brought the 2.5l engine in the previous gen, at the fag end of its lifecycle. Presumably at a lower price.

Couple of my relatives were set to buy Fortuners, and they couldn't care less about the engine size or the 4x4 system.

Guess my surprise when they ended up buying the 3.0l version.

Turns out that the 2.5l variant was kitted out with TRD bodykits and stuff as standard, hence ended up being more expensive than the base 3.0l version.!!!

Frankly speaking current engine in Fortuner is more than adequate for 90% of the time. The extra horses may be useful during those off road recce. Before upgrading engine, Toyota needs to update interiors, they are dated no two words. Second important is they need to do something about rear suspension, its too bouncy. Engine upgrade would be of least priority as I see.

I am afraid that they will stop 2.8 altogether and bring only the 2.4 AT here just like the Innova. Or maybe bring the 2.4 AT at current Fortuner prices and then place 2.8 AT at 50 lakhs. Just worst case scenarios. Hope this does not happen and we get the 2.4 AT at slightly lower prices along with the 200 hp 2.8 AT.

No sir I don't think Toyota will give up the 2.8L engine for three reasons:-

1. They have invested heavily in making both 2.4L and 2.8L diesel engines
BS6 in end 2019, if Fortuner doesn't get it then it would not have been
upgraded to BS6 at all considering Innova doesn't get it any longer.

2. In International market the 2.8L engine was already upgraded to BS6 so it
was very likely to get it here as well.

3. And the most important point that the 2.4L diesel engine makes even
lesser power than Ford's single turbo 2.0L, if this is done then the Fortuner
will lose out it's major selling point!

But what they could possibly do is that the 2.4L diesel is introduced at a lower price point, also I am assuming this because in Thailand only the Legender gets the 2.8L engine whereas the one spotted here is the standard one (I could be wrong at this assumption). In India maybe Toyota could give us the standard Fortuner with the 2.8L engine

Looks so premium now with the new grill and bumpers accompanied with the slightly restyled headlamp. I’m really hoping Toyota brings over the Legender variant too with the updated 2.8L as well as the 2.4L. If priced correctly, the Fortuner will surely gain back all the lost ground to the Endy very soon.
