Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used BMW 5-Series (F10)

Voted “Yes”. My Vento TDi will be replaced by a 530d, F10, whenever I feel like replacing it. I just love the car. I first drove it in 2011 when a friend of mine bought it. I took the delivery and drove it till his home. That very car is still relevant in terms of looks, power, comfort and luxury and if it is 5 series it has to be 530d.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used BMW 5-Series (F10)

Voted NO.

1. I had the opportunity to really 'push' the next gen G30 530d M sport and felt it was significantly better (stock to stock comparison) - the adaptive suspension, the interiors, the 'nimbleness', engine refinement/power - all significant upgrades.

2. For 80% city driving, I'd choose a car with a smaller footprint anyday. It's just too big. If I must get a used BMW, I would choose a F30 330i over this.

Yes! Absolutely yes! Oh my god yes! If I had the appropriate funds, I'd buy one, RIGHT NOW! Drove it once in 2016. Nothing ever has felt better after that. Seeing the reliability, it would be the perfect upgrade when I dump my Superb.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used BMW 5-Series (F10)

I voted a YES and that is after buying a used E60 530D 5 years ago! And it's been a fantastic largely trouble free ownership experience in which I've driven for about a lakh kilometers. I would still keep the E60 for the purity of it's handling (and for the fact that it was my first ever BMW) and would get a sparingly used F10 as my highway car of choice.

Have always been vwry of the reliability of used German saloons but if it was a well maintained and sparingly used inline 6 530D, I would give it a go. Voted Yes.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used BMW 5-Series (F10)

Voted Yes, as it is one of the few cars that stradles the different boundaries. It is fast and sporty yet a executive saloon. It is economical and fuel efficient but costs of spares high. It can be bought cheap as a used buy but costly upfront. So as a whole a very competent and interesting machine which keeps its owner involved.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used BMW 5-Series (F10)

Voted Yes!

I picked up a used 2013 530d a year back. I got lucky to find a car which was maintained extremely well and had only done 20000 kms. The previous owner even had a racechip installed. I was a little vary about the reliability with the racechip. However I must say, it's been amazing. No problems at all.

Apart from the really bad legroom for the rear passengers there is nothing about the car that doesn't appeal to me.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used BMW 5-Series (F10)

4-5 years back when I drove the F10 for the first time I would have said yes. But today things have changed. My answer is No factoring in the following things-

1. The F10 530d is a good car but when it comes to the driving experience, it doesn’t come close to the E60. The G30 is perfectly balanced. Pretty comfortable and extremely fun to drive. The f10 feels like a huge fast sedan.

2. The W212 facelift E250/350 CDi seem like a much better deal. They have space in abundance and the ride quality is amazing. The E250 feels much much better than the 520d.

3. The interior space is a joke and the space saver in the boot doesn’t help it either. I am glad the newer BMWs get a dedicated place for the Stepney.

I love the inline-6 turbo diesel + zf8 combo in all the BMWs but the G30 is better packaged and feels like a true blue BMW. The F10 looks good and unlike most people the G30 looks amazing to me too. So yeah if and when I have to buy one it will be the G30 and not the F10. Considering the new designs from BMW, g30 will be the last bmw I like in terms of the design. :P

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used BMW 5-Series (F10)

I do own a 525 D.... planning to sell it by the year end. Hardly drove it, just did 20 K in 6.5 years.

Excellent highway car, rear space cramped, massive bonnet, adequate boot space. Haven’t spend much since BMW package taken upfront for 5 years and did very few miles. Difficult to drive in heavy traffic, effortless on clean roads and PICK up is really good.
Just wait for the red light to turn green and enjoy this car.
BMW service much better than a AUDI.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used BMW 5-Series (F10)

Having driven both the F10 and G30, I would any day choose the G30.

The chassis is way tighter, steering feel is nicer, the adaptive suspension is taut when you want it to be and comfortable when you want to cruise. The small interior changes and the newer i-drive improve practicality.

Only issue is price - the 530d is pretty over priced and the 535i isn't available which is a shame!

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used BMW 5-Series (F10)

If I want a family/personal car I would go for the W212 as its a good mixture of drivability (500nm of torque in the E250!) and comfort with its plush seats, panoramic sunroof . I drove a 520d before finalising an E250 and along with the very cramped rear interiors the car simply lacked the punch I expected it would have.

The 530d is in another league,if I needed a car for personal use in the budget I would go for a 530d or a 330i.Well maintained 530d's are hard to come by and demand a premium.

Thus if the car is for personal use mostly I would vote yes but otherwise no

Experts and users - this is a conundrum I am currently facing and so reach out to you for advice. I am considering the 330i (new) versus the 530d (new or sparingly used). Simply reading about these cars on the forum seems to point towards the 330i as a better choice. However, what I don't get is, why do most experts on the forum consider the 530d (almost unanimously!) better than the smaller sibling? I believe there MUST be something you have felt in the 530d, that is not just about the segment or space on offer...

As a background, I looking for a self-driven German that will plaster a smile on my (or my dad's) face, will run ~6000km p.a. (mostly city), shall be kept for 5y and has to be maintained at authorized stations, since I don't know/ believe FNGs in Kolkata. A covered parking space is no issue. To add to the confusion, I am also considering the C300d!

Caveat: This is a heart-over-head query, and does not consider the new-vs-used depreciation angle.

Please suggest.

If you are considering spending around ₹60 lakh for a new c300D AMG Line, IMHO you can instead buy a lightly used G30 530d for at least ₹10-₹15 lakhs lesser probably. I have driven both the cars and the “push to the seat” feeling you get with 530d is simply exhilarating. And moreover the 530d is more roomier than c300d. But then it is difficult to find a lesser mileage G30 530d now considering that it has been just over three years since they first started coming on the road.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used BMW 5-Series (F10)

Voted no as i find F10 to be the most boring design that BMW has put out. Probably nothing wrong with the car itself but it doesn't evoke any emotion in me. The E60 is one of the best looking cars, perfectly balanced and this looked like a step in the wrong direction. G30 looks better but still not as good as the E60.
