The normal AMT automates the clutch as well as the gear shifts whereas the iMT in Sonet/Venue only automates the clutch while you still have to shift the gears yourself.
In simple words, iMT is a normal manual gearbox (H pattern) sans a clutch!
The VFM petrol automatic (DCT) variant would be the HTK+ which is the only mid trim available with AT.
If your main usage is in the city then you shouldn't be looking at the DCT as the gearbox heats up in heavy bumper to bumper traffic.
Better consider the Diesel AT which uses a reliable torque converter.

Checked out the Sonet at a dealer here as they unveiled the car today.

Didn't spend too much time as there were many people. Sat in the back seat. Yea the space is as much as you can expect in a compact SUV, nothing more, maybe if my memory serves me right, a cm or two better than Venue. I also felt the roof slopes down a bit at the rear when looked from outside. Will check out in detail sometime next week as I didn't want to spend time with people around.

I feel they should launch 5-speed iMT on 1.2 litre petrol engine and price it around 20K more than the MT variant and make it the cheapest clutch-less transmission on C-SUV segment.

I took test drive from Lakshmi Tata Velachery. Gurudev Tata Arumbakkam and Gokulam Tata Chrompet are also equally responsive.
Venue was taken off from my list due to not-so-good rear leg room as well the lack of features in 'S' (SX is a good choice with plenty of features added; and its beyond my budget).

Well, as I said, AT is never my choice and iMT is yet to prove its reliability and I am not sure if its a wise decision to chose that because I used to have long trips esp to hill stations and still have question on its capability of holding the vehicle on steeps without a HDC/HLA. Could be possible once we get used to it I guess; but honestly, I am a bit hesitant, rather not confident to try that with a 9L investment

It's not clear how tall these guys really are and how much the front seat is being pushed back though.

Saw a Sonet on the road, front and back seem to mask its size well, side profile is what lets it down. Looks quite compact, freestyle should be a good reference.

Venue with similar features should be more appealing, until then the Sonet Diesel AT would be my top pick.

Tried checking with dealers in Delhi and Gurgaon, but they haven't received cars for putting up on display yet. Wondering if anyone has been to the Kia 360 beats experience centre in Cyber Hun? Remember them having the Auto Expo version of the Sonet on display since the past year.

I saw a fully camouflaged Sonet yesterday evening in the Outer Ring Road-Chennai. Could Kia be testing any additional transmission & Engine option like the 1.2 L Automatic or so. As it was dark and both me and the Sonet were at speeds just below the triple digit, I could not get any pic. I would say it has good road presence.

Wish Kia introduces the 1.2 engine in GTX variant with all safety features. This would give an affordable option of fully loaded car at affordable price though one has to bear with the sluggish engine.

By the way, I regularly see a Camouflaged i20 (3rd gen) being tested along with a escort Tucson in the same road.
