A Close Look : Kia Sonet

We happened to check Kia Sonet today and I must say we came out pretty impressed with the overall looks, quality and space. Please see below for more details:

Looks - The front looks imposing. A little overdone but not bad at all. We all liked the way it looks from all angles, except the side profile, where the actual length of <4m is evident. The much talked about dashboard layout looks very good in person, way better than how you perceive it in pictures. Very handsome car.
Score - 9/10

Quality - The overall quality is decent. The seats, steering wheel and other bits are good. The dashboard, though, is all hard plastic which isn't the best to be honest. Noticed a scratch on the co-driver side dashboard which possibly happened due to some mishandling, but the point is that the interior quality isn't the best in the market. At the same time, as mentioned by other member earlier, I'm also assuming the display models are not the production ready units and hoping their quality will be better.
Score - 7.5/10

Space - Let me start with this - Mighty impressed! No idea how on earth Kia managed to squeeze a big boot and very good interior space on a sub 4-meter car. Please see the below images. I'm 6.0 and after adjusting the front seat as per my height, I had ample amount of leg space and headroom available. The leg space is good enough for me to sit in a laid back position. My son, who is 5.8, had more space overall. The underthigh support for rear passengers isn't very good though and Kia could have done a little better there.
Score - 9.5/10

We are now waiting for Kia to reveal the prices on 18th. If priced sensibly, this car is going to create some serious chaos in the sub 4 meter space.

According to kia's website the overall height is 1610mm and overall width is 1790mm. The GC was confirmed in kia's sonet introduction video, its 205mm.

So the Sonet is much taller and slightly wider than Venue!

Venue is like 1601mm correct?

Yup, pretty close it’s 1605mm with roof rails according to CarWale and without it’s 1590mm.

This data is not correct for height. It is 1610mm. So the Sonet is as tall as Venue, barring a cm or two. Unlike the Brezza or EcoSport that measure 1647mm in height.

Snip from official brochure below, showing the height is indeed 1647 mm. The Sonet has higher ground clearance than the Venue by about 15 mm and is also taller in terms of the body itself. You can make out fro the steep vertical rise of the grill, making it look much taller than the Venue.

The difference of Height which everyone is highlighting is because of the roof rails.
The Sonet HTE without roof rails is 1610 mm (see the height of the HTE version on the Kia website.)
While the HTK+ variant and above have a height of 1642 mm which includes the roof rails.

The 1647mm number mentioned could be because of the Shark fin antenna too as that seems to the highest point of the car. But even the data on the Kia website is not consistent and mentions different numbers at different places!

On their website height of the HTE is 1610mm, HTK is 1625mm and HTK+ onwards it's 1642mm!
