Honda Amaze sales cross the 4 lakh mark

Honda has sold more than 4 lakh units of the Amaze sedan (Honda Amaze : Official Review) in India since the car's launch in 2013. 42% of Amaze customers are said to be first-time car buyers.

The first generation Amaze was launched in April 2013. Honda claims to have sold 2.6 lakh units of the car. The second generation was launched in May 2018 and has sold 1.4 lakh units. Honda claims that Tier 1 cities account for 44% of the total Amaze sales, while Tier 2 and 3 cities account for 56%. 9% of the first-gen cars sold were equipped with an automatic transmission, while that figure increased to 20% for the second-gen Amaze.

The BS6-complaint Amaze was launched in January this year. It is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 89 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm @ 4,800 rpm and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that makes 99 BHP @ 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm @ 1,750 rpm. Both engines are offered with a 5-speed manual or a CVT. The diesel CVT variant produces 79 BHP @ 3,600 rpm and 160 Nm @ 1,750 rpm.

Re: Honda Amaze sales cross the 4 lakh mark

Currently Amaze is the cheapest offering from Honda and no wonder their sales are on the higher side. The price difference between the on road price of Amaze base vs new City base is huge.I think even when Jazz was around, the hatchback was priced comparatively higher than Amaze. Honda got rid of the E and S variants from their traditional offerings and made them out of reach for the masses.

Some really interesting stats in there.

Maruti & Hyundai have always claimed that many first-time buyers have moved from 3.5 lakh Altos to 6 - 10 lakh rupee hatchbacks, sedans & Compact SUVs. Good to add some percentages to that.

What that also means is the 2nd upgrade purchase (replacement car) of these buyers will almost certainly be C2 segment sedans (City) or more likely, crossovers (Creta, Seltos). I feel a large part of Creta & Seltos sales are from these kind of buyers (second-ever car they bought).

Two reasons:

1. That awesome Diesel CVT which is a USP in a segment full of jerky AMTs.

2. The market (and enthusiasts too) are greatly moving to ATs. It's comparable to the mass bird migrations!
