Jan 13 for the Altroz Turbo.
Jan 26 for the Safari.

Re: Tata Altroz with turbo petrol engine spotted undisguised

Hello bhpians.

Just confirmed from my sources that Tata is working on giving a sunroof to the Altroz. The launch of the same is expected in Q2 of this year.

Also DCT option will be made available later this year. It looks likely that Tata will launch both the sunroof and the DCT on Altroz together.

Will post updates on the exact timeframe of the launch once I get concrete info on the same.

Re: Tata Altroz with turbo petrol engine spotted undisguised

Slightly OT.
The Altroz sold 6600 units in December 2020 with a so-called puny petrol engine and no turbo-petrol and no automatic whatsoever.

But the new gen i20 sold just 8000 with all those features, superior engines and different automatic gearboxes. That’s 1000 lesser than what old gen elite i20 used to manage! It was expected to dent the Baleno’s sales.

https://gaadiwaadi.com/top-10-best-s...0-altroz-nios/

Either Altroz is kicking-ass before even launching the turbo-petrol/DCT or Hyundai just shot themselves in the foot by pricing the i20 too high. BTW, those were introductory prices of i20 I think and hyundai will raise prices again this month.

There's also a diesel on both the Altroz and the i20. We do not know the exact split in sales. By this month end, both of them sport three engines but only later will the Altroz have an autobox.

Re: Tata Altroz with turbo petrol engine spotted undisguised

Well, I just finished checking the figures from the turbocharged Tata Bolt petrol.

The Bolt petrol weighs 1095 kg and has a peak power output of 90 PS and the same 140 Nm but between 150 and 4000 rpm. This car does 0-100 in 13.22 seconds as per Autocar review.

The Altroz has a kerb weight of 1040 kg for the NA petrol - so the turbo variant should probably weigh the same as the Bolt. However with a higher 110 PS power output, a larger spread of torque all the way till 5500 rpm and definitely better aerodynamics, the Altroz should be in the low 12 seconds, if not in the high 11 seconds for 0-100.

I wonder why Tata proudly (and very conservatively) claimed a lame timing of 13 seconds and caused so much confusion

Re: Tata Altroz with turbo petrol engine spotted undisguised

Here is a comparison video by Autocar India between the Altroz and the i20, both being diesel manual variants. Its refreshing to see that Nikhil is being quite neutral while handling this comparo as Autocar India has been always known to be biased against Tata Motors.

What's interesting is, the Diesel variant of Altroz with 90PS and 200NM takes 13.14s to 100.

Really makes me wonder why some manufacturers are so conservative towards performance. Of course the 0-100 timings do not matter for every day errands, but why bother launching a variant as a performance thing when it does not even differ much from the regular mundane variants!

Completely out of context here, but personally:

Most VFM Petrol Hatch on Sale today - Polo 1.0 TSI MT

Most VFM Diesel Hatch on Sale today - Figo 1.5 TDCI

PERIOD!!

Re: Tata Altroz with turbo petrol engine spotted undisguised

I am not too worried about the acceleration numbers, since majority of us will drive it in the city and highway runs once in a while, what I will be interested in is low end torque and how drivable the car is in the city.

Just one problem with both. Age and features. The Figo still looks fresh externally (except for the new Bumpers) but the interiors are missing a lot of features unless you go for the top end but even then not great. Polo has got most features but it's just dated inside and out.
That said I'd still love to pic up a Figo TDCi, slap on some Ecosport wheels, lowering springs and a nice remap. I may actually do that once the new dealer starts operations in Goa.

Figo is 4 hole and EcoSport is 5 hole so won't fit.
