Agree that they should have gone for an aggressive approach. But nearly half the price of Fortuner?
Single cab chassis without rear load bay, 2.0l petrol or 2.4l diesel with bare features. Low ride height, small tyres, no flared wheel arches. Maybe around 14-15 lakhs in Thailand.

Rest all are priced near or at par with the Fortuner pricing internationally. Especially decently equipped dual cab with 2.8l diesel or v6 petrol and off-road spec. Some variants of the Hilux (tonka truck like) are even priced more than the most expensive Fortuner sold anywhere in the world.

2.4Diesel with 4x2 and 4x4 manual would get some volumes for Toyota

Yep. That is why I am praying that it is a success enough for Toyota to bring in the lower variants, but not too much of a success that they keep on increasing the price every half an year.

But guess, Toyota is happy with the lifestyle margin, than the workhorse volume now. Main problem is that, Thailand exists. No way, Toyota Thailand is going to let their golden goose go to India. We will remain a CKD recipient for the foreseeable future.

A richer life is an apt campaign for the Hilux. Considering all the price expectations in this thread, this truck is definitely for those who are "richer"

Shouldn't Toyota be launching this also with the petrol motor? With the rising pollution, shorter life and likely ban on diesel vehicles it doesn't make sense to plonk 3 million on a diesel truck at least in NCR.

Toyota would have gotten my money on this or the Fortuner had they done this. As an alternative, I had to go in for the Innova + Thar Petrol combination

Good idea, but Toyota has not brought their A or B game into India when large petrol engines are concerned. The current 2.7 liter engine that they plonk on the Innova and Fortuner is nowhere near the 2.8 liter diesel. It is an old naturally aspirated engine which lacks power and is not fuel efficient either. Plus there is now 4WD on this engine, atleast not in India. Toyota's petrol ambitions in this segment are mere lip service at the altar of NGT.

The full fat 4 liter 235 BHP V6- now that would have been something, right?

Hoping for the next generation Fortuner/Hilux that may have good petrol hybrid options.

Can see rear diff locks, PWR mode, downhill assist. No perforated seats so probably no ventilated seats and no JBL branding on HU so might get a 6 speaker unit. Has Dual zone climate control. Clearly, will sit below base Fortuner.

So they've dropped a hint that its going to be ridiculously expensive

After witnessing for years what the Hilux, a hardy pickup doing what it was designed to do and costed likewise(UAE) seems a bit weird to see it being launched as a premium offering.
Will wait for the prices adding this link for reference :

It is amazing how Toyota as a brand which was a common man's go-to brand for cars like corolla and innova has shifted to premium buyers on the fundamentals of reliability!

So much so that the sentimental/expected price of it's pickup truck is equal to a premium luxury SUV/Car like Gloster, Superb!

Ermm... Toyota is no longer the cheapest or even VFM purchase in markets with reasonable car prices. There is a slight 'Toyota tax' to be paid over rival companies in most markets. AFAIK, the Corolla came to India as a premium offering. Maybe a compact car in USA, but I still remember Autocarindia clubbing the Corolla/Octavia segment into near luxury/premium segment. The whole segment is.

Toyota as a brand can't be premium, but Europe's family car brand is India's premium luxury? Or a Chinese company masquerading as British can be a premium luxury brand?
