Rumour: Toyota India to offer 16 vehicles by 2023

Below is a message by Toyota to a Dealer.

A few days back there was a discussion on why Toyota does increase its range from current 6 Vehicles.
I had answered that by 2022 things will be different.
Toyota has communicated to all dealers that by 2022-23 they will have total 16 Vehicles to offer.
Only 5 of these will be a shared platform with Suzuki.

PS: Conversational message and sent As Is. Out of 5 we already know 2, the other three are speculated to be Ertiga, Ciaz and an entry level hatchback.

IMO Toyota should stop this re-badge thing at Urban Cruiser.
Selling every other Maruti car putting T logo will dilute their own brand image in the long run. Toyota shouldn’t become another Nexa also selling Innova/Fortuner et cetera.

My guess of these 16 Toyota's are below

Glanza
Urban Cruiser
Ertiga Based MPV
Ciaz Based Sedan
Creta Rival Jointly developed by Toyota & Suzuki

Yaris
CH-R
Corolla Cross
RAV-4
Venza
Camry
Innova Crysta
Fortuner
Hilux
Vellfire
Land Cruiser

In the shared platform there is one more car expected as in the collaboration plan between Suzuki and Toyota.

Drawing upon Suzuki's expertise in developing vehicles in India, joint development of a Toyota C-segment MPV and OEM supply to Suzuki.

Honestly the CH-R, Corolla Cross, RAV-4 should ideally be priced between 20-40L but the Innova and Fortuner are already present in this price bracket so I doubt CH-R and Corolla Cross will come to India. Also they are already making a Creta-rival with MS so the CH-R is out of question for India!

It should be 12 re-badged Marutis, Yaris, Innova, fortuner and Vellfire. I don't expect anything big from Toyota. The only companies that respect a Indian customer are apparently the Koreans, Kia and Hyundai. Everyone else are just playing with our market, either not taking us seriously or exploiting the trust our market has kept on them!

This is the only one out of the lot that gets me excited. A new joint developed for this category has immense potential! Really looking forward to it.

Who wouldn't want a car with Toyota's reliability and Maruti's support and understanding of the Indian market? Add to that the high resale shared by both.

This being a new development can be quite advanced too, unlike their other almost legacy offerings.

Judging by their current re-badging business I hope we will very soon see a Toyota Alto .

Toyota already has its own version of the Alto. It’s called the Toyota Agya.

Why they haven’t brought it to India, I don’t know.

Why the Sienta, out of curiosity? It’s more of a competitor to the Honda Freed/Honda BRV/Suzuki Ertiga. It does have sliding doors though which work brilliantly in tight spaces.

Also, if I’m not wrong, the 2020 Yaris is just a rebadged Mazda 2. Which may or may not be a good thing.

Yeah! I couldn't agree more. The only reason Toyota and Maruti are engaged in this way is because Maruti needs the tech to take the leap into Electric cars and Toyota can facilitate the same. Toyota knows that they can't make an attractive mass market car at the lower end of the price spectrum after Etios and Yaris. Thus, in a bid to make the deal equitable, they thought the badge job for current Maruti cars in exchange for Electric tech is good idea. But, like you said they are diluting the brand.

They do have a hatch and sedans and proper SUVs, what they lack is the in-between segment (Though they are about to launch the Urban Cruiser). Covering that may take them to the masses.
I would love to see a S-Cross coming from the Toyota showroom but with a different and lively (read powerful) engine.

Re: Rumour: Toyota India to offer 16 vehicles by 2023

Toyota should focus more on Quality than Quantity. This rebadging thing might bring some profits for the company, but affects brand image as well.

People might start to think why Toyota has to depend on someone else? Might even raise question on Toyota reliability, even if it actually has nothing to do with it.

All manufacturers should learn from Hyundai. They have adequate number of cars across the segments. And all, except Tucson, are doing well.

Have two models with segment best quality and features to sell at 10k units a month, than having 10 models with 2k units a month.

Why they haven’t brought it to India...
It is a Daihatsu, more like the successor of the model that would have been our 800 if Osama Suzuki was not eager and if Daihatsu didn't double cross Maruti.
Other than the DNGA platform, with the Maruti partnership now, Daihatsu is pretty much out of India.

Sienta is just a personal choice. Funky and practical.
Though it would be a misfit for India. Too old a platform, too expensive for the Indian market (and size) and too cramped for a 7 seater of that price.
Same with the Corolla hatch/station wagon. Would be a bad fit for Indian consumers.

The Yaris and Toyota's myriad versions.

The Mazda 2 rebadged Yaris is a North American only model.

Rumour: Toyota India to offer 16 vehicles by 2023-images-70.jpeg

The 2020 Yaris I meant was the JDM, Europe model. The smallest model on the TNGA platform, and hence deemed too expensive for India.
