This is going to be a meme fest for sure.

With the tincans that they manufacture, even the names seem cheap and hollow. Imagine Solido getting a 1 star crash rating and Espaco having less legroom.

Re: Maruti trademarks the names Espaco, Libertas and Solido

Now, Toyota India has a big task at hand. As they are not planning for further investments, they have to find three new names for 'their' future products. Hope you guys do better than Glanza this time around!

Re: Maruti trademarks the names Espaco, Libertas and Solido

Espaco: Resounding to the Renault Espace [CrossOver MPV] so probably the C-MPV or as most people say the WagonR based 7 seater

Libertas: Definitely a SUV [ resounding to the Jeep Liberty]

Solido aka SOLIO: WagonR based EV (the one we've all been seeing testing with Camo)

Wouldn't be surprised that MSIL will showcase the ESPACO at the Auto Expo `22

I am definitely not buying any car with these names!

Somehow, I feel these might be used in their commercial vehicles line up, if at all they are used.

These models will feel right at home if they end up in Mexico.

Samo pincho foro Tata Timero?
I believe unless and until Maruti churns out another mileage champion in the respective class with smooth petrol motor, the name would not be a fly in the ointment. One has to accept this fact sadly.

Give those guys a break please

In my opinion, naming a car with a good name is easier said than done.

On that note, what do fellow bhpians think have been some iconic names?

SOLIDO - El Muchacho stupide?

I mean, c'mon, Maruti doesn't deserve this caning. Eventually they came to understand they have a stronghold in an area where they usually excel at, names. If you can't build it, why not fake it, the SOLIDO name - solidifies - their truth in believing, name is enough.

God bless us all.

Cheers!

Re: Maruti trademarks the names Espaco, Libertas and Solido

SOLIDO! What a crazy name.

Oh the irony of naming a Maruti a 'SOLIDO'. I would love to have been in the meeting of the Marketing team where not only did someone suggest the name, but all the team concurred that it was a good name. I wonder if the Marketing team at Maruti uses 'Focus Groups' before they finalize names.

On a more serious note, not all trademarked names make it to the market. So I'm still holding out hope that better sense will prevail at Maruti.

However, i think that the name 'SOLIDO' maybe earmarked for a commercial vehicle. A replacement for the 'SUPER CARRY' perhaps or even a bigger load carrier. The name to my ears at least fits in with the commercial vehicle division.

Re: Maruti trademarks the names Espaco, Libertas and Solido

And here I suggest another name to them, Propello! A car that could propell itself, or maybe one with a propeller on its outside (that's a really bad joke!). Actually, this name came up in the ads that show up. There could be copyright infringement but then, it does match with all this jello kind of names.

Maruti trademarks the names Espaco, Libertas and Solido-screenshot_20200919203706.jpg

The first time I read the thread title, I read as Escapo, Libertas and Solio. Later I realised that I've messed up. We all have bashed up Maruti a lot for their poor sheet metal designs and crash ratings barring a few, they should come up with a Tinio too.

The names of cars have started getting weird in some and cool in some. But then with so many models and variants, it's a tough call I guess.

Re: Maruti trademarks the names Espaco, Libertas and Solido

Someone mentioned solido being Italian for solid, and article says it will most likely be for a version of wagon r. This will be one of the most ironic car names ever.

Re: Maruti trademarks the names Espaco, Libertas and Solido

Looks like somebody in Maruti has just finished a euro trip and found some SOLIDO names to give us LIBERTAS from pain and agony of going through some of the funny and dreaded names already found in Indian market.
1. Maruti Espresso
2. Tata Buzzard
3. Maruti Celerio
4. Chevrolet Enjoy
5. Skoda Laura (No pun intended please)
6. Honda Jazz
7. Mazda LaPuta (Not sure if it’s available in Indian market)

Not able to recall anymore. You can add more to the list if you remember something that has always made you smile once you read it in the back of a car. And now this from Maruti. Nice try though

Re: Maruti trademarks the names Espaco, Libertas and Solido

Speculation never gets one anywhere. But I feel these are very interesting model names if they are tied to some new offerings. Space, Freedom and Reliability are very resonating terms from the Indian auto audience. These might not fit to current offerings or face-lifted/refresh of current models - but a net new set of upcoming models makes sense. I'm sure big-wigs at MSIL are in tune with the market and these might be just in reserve for 2021 launches.
