2nd-gen Haval H2 revealed at Beijing Motor Show

Great Wall Motors has revealed the second-generation Haval H2 SUV at the Beijing Motor Show. The vehicle has been branded as the Haval First Love in China. It is the production version of the Concept H that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The Haval H2 is based on the company's Lemon platform. The production version retains most of the design elements of the Concept H with lots of chrome on the grille. The design of the headlights and tail lamp clusters has been carried over from the concept car, but the 19-inch wheels have been replaced with 18-inch multi-spoke alloys.

On the inside, the dashboard design has been carried over from the Concept H. It features a floating touchscreen infotainment head-unit. The SUV gets features such as a panoramic sunroof, head-up display and a rotary gear selector.

In China, the SUV is expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine producing 148 BHP and 210 Nm, which could be paired with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Great Wall Motors has plans to enter the Indian market with the Haval H2. However, the plan has hit a roadblock following the border tensions between India and China.

A typically Chinese design philosophy. Hit & miss looks. Some angles look nice, some don't. Usual lack of originality / imagination (barring some exceptions). And the chrome rub-rail / cladding along the doors seals the looks department. Put that thing on the most beautiful car of your list & it will be immediately ruined. Who thought of this bling god only knows.

And I'll never be able to digest the fact that an auto maker actually named their platform "LEMON". I mean in auto-lingo this is like a universally agreed term. Expecting people to buy a LEMON BASED CAR is quite ambitious.

Interestingly the car in pictures is LHD oriented & yet has the fuel filler also on the left. Generally it tends to be on opposite corners of the car (based on the home market).

From the first pic, the front looks like that of a Creta crying after being beaten up.

Whatever you say about our Indian home boys, their designs are consistent if not great.

Truly. But other automakers should be worried about the Chinese. The Haval team has been around making proper cars since under a decade. If this is where they already are in a decade, imagine where they will be in 20 - 30 years.

The Chinese auto industry is trying hard to catch up with the rest of the world. Also, their betting-the-house investment in EVs is a strategic masterpiece.
