re: Tata Motors mocks the S-Presso for its zero safety rating

It’s amazing how things can change dramatically for an Indian automakers. Tata usually gets so much flak for having the seemingly underpowered 3 cylinder engines in their cars like altroz, Nexon. But when people see that same segment cars from hyundai & Maruti with similar engine power only feel zippy because they are lighter Cars and not built heavy, get low crash rating, then people realise the value of Tata’s heavy but well built & safe cars with 5 star safety rating. Plus the Atma Nirbhar & Vocal-for-Local campaign. Things seem to be changing for Tata motors & Mahindra.

re: Tata Motors mocks the S-Presso for its zero safety rating

GNCAP has been there in India with its self declared crusade since last 3-4 years. For Suzuki, roughly 40% of India sales is in rural market. So, for 6,00,000 odd vehicles the NCAP factor is moot considering average total India sales is 15,00,000 numbers. Of the balance 9,00,000, may be 20-30% of people are aware of existence of such ratings, which amounts to max 3,00,000 odd buyers. Of these, around 30% tend to ignore NCAP due to affordability concerns or due to bling prioritisation. So, that leaves us 2,00,000 odd buyers who are actually affected. For such people, the Brezzas and other 3 Star vehicles serve the purpose. So, for the time being, Suzuki is safe in their stance of meeting law of the land.
Pls note that above numbers are back of the napkin calculations and not sourced from statistics.

And then you have a miniscule group of sceptics like me who are wary of sensationalist groups like NCAP and who are focusing on larger image of safety. This miniscule group feels safety is so much more than a car being banged into a wall or pole or vice versa. When you add the fact that current GNCAP ratings focus only on Front offset impact and not side impact or rear impact, we find how narrow a definition of safety is used to rate a car.
The future will depend on how the above numbers change going ahead.

re: Tata Motors mocks the S-Presso for its zero safety rating

And why not, if Maruti can make a mockery of Diesel engines and owners then why not. All these years MS raked in money by selling Diesel cars and all of a sudden Diesel engines are impractical?
Well done Tata, its about time when people (Indians) start demanding safer cars over tin cans. I am beginning to hate "The cars (read- tin cans with sub standard safety)that we make are what you indians deserve" type message that MS is delivering.
I don't own a tata so can't comment on the ownership experience, its completely through "word of the mouth feedback" on the the service and maintenance experience.
Before buying the Scross, i had visited Concorde to TD the Safari Storme 4x4, had a look, loved it. However two things put me off- a "not so interested to sell" attitude Sales man and no TD vehicles available. Moreover they didn't even take down my contact details. Experience buying the SCross 1.6- Visited the showroom, saw the car and requested a TD. Since the showroom was crowded, the salesman requested me to come the next day morning. Arrived the next day by 8am and as promised by the salesman, I was offered a TD which was a good 100+ km spirited driving (Pune-lonavala-Pune).
Tata does make good cars, they just need to put in more effort to improve their image, and yes my next car won't be a Maruti Suzuki for sure.

Wow that's funtastic! very creative and funny indeed. But it's the same company that made the egg like Nano that got a 'zero' in GNCAP.
However, Tata Motors have really come a long way from the Nano days and are now indeed having a good product line-up and safer cars.

Re: Tata Motors mocks the S-Presso for its zero safety rating

Excellent ad by Tata. Loved it. I'm not so sure though that SPresso and Tiago are in the same price range. Also Tata should bring the AMT gearbox in the lower variants too. Right now, only the top 2 variants get AMT, so there is lot of difference in pricing between the AMT versions of the SPresso and the Tiago.

Good shot by Tata! Witty, classy, factual.

Am happy to see such open attacks on competitors, especially in important areas such as safety. In fact, I wish more Indian car manufacturers came out with "out of the box" advertising / marketing. Else, we only see the usual lame & boring kind of ads. Something like this too (USA: Nissan is so confident of the Rogue they'll let you drive a Toyota RAV4 at the dealership).

Ha! Ha!

Tata is having a field day. And rightly so. It’s time to drive home the fact that safety and build is more important than keyless entry and internet and air purifier.

Re: Tata Motors mocks the S-Presso for its zero safety rating

Important indications of hugely overdue corrections in the Indian automobile industries where safety is placed in the fore and companies are forced to acknowledge it. India stands on the top of the world in terms of vehicle accidents and only now that we have begun to discuss it and companies forced to acknowledge it. Well deserved slap for Maruti and cudos to Tata.

Re: Tata Motors mocks the S-Presso for its zero safety rating

Bring it on, that's the only way to get it across to the informed public. Why doesn't someone ask the transport minister as to how a car which can be 0 in GNCAP be passed. Tata and Mahindra are in a good position to raise the topic will earn them more respect as almost all cars that they sell are 4 stars and above.

I agree fully. Instead of wasting ads with K L Rahul type of ambassador in Nexon case for example, they would have done ad with Varun Dhawan etc. (Like Kia utilized brand value of Tiger Shroff).

Also Alia for Altroz or Tiago, Viraat for Harrier and Bachhan family for Hexa etc.

Akshay Kumar can also be good option to convey safety related messages to audience through creative ads.

Re: Tata Motors mocks the S-Presso for its zero safety rating

Ok Tata should get all the praises it deserves but the main question is how many of us in this forum now want to buy Tata cars? How many of us who have already bought unsafe cars want to sell them & buy safer cars? Many us don't even know the safety ratings of our cars as they weren't tested? What's the solution in such cases? Just pray to God & drive safe?

Re: Tata Motors mocks the S-Presso for its zero safety rating

MS is not selling good cars, but the sell good service. While TATA sells good cars but they sell bad service. People who put their lakhs in a depreciating asset are looking for hassle free ownership as the car is going to be with them for years. This is where MS scores against TATA. I don't think fuel economy is an aspect anymore but Service (during Sales and after Sales) is. Maruti has been able to maintain that standard for decades now and when they are such a proven worth, it is obvious that people will put their savings on that. We all do the same thing for even big-ticket items that we purchase at our home.

TATA doesn't want to be MS in their cars but they can emulate MS in their Service approach. Till then, TATA will have more likes only in Social Media not in Sales.

Re: Tata Motors mocks the S-Presso for its zero safety rating

Although that's a great Ad, IMHO TATA should do an Apple and focus to talk about the strength of their products. This will help them gain more respect among the crowds.
