I have done a few calculations based on the actual facts and figures. The government charges Rs.18 per litre as road infrastructure and still they have tolls which is quite frustrating.

Re: Petrol price crosses Rs. 90 / litre in Mumbai, diesel at Rs. 80

For the taxes I pay, I do not get proper roads, safety or assistance. Everywhere I go I have to pay over and below due to corruption and harassment. You guys wont believe I had to bribe/create a notary(I did not bribe, created a notary for twice the amount) to file a complaint of loosing my wallet(100Rs and all important cards) in a bus stand in Pune(I needed the FIR for applying for duplicate cards and license)

No wonder all the educated and blessed are moving outside India.

With the likes of India and a few Indians becoming a trillion dollar country/ enterprise, we will still be having manual scavenging for sewer cleaning and a major part of population chanting religious slogans while happily ignoring the true state of affairs of the country.

I am a die hard patriot, but I too await my chance to move abroad and never be back to a country where I am constantly being mugged in the name of betterment and development. India is the next Somalia/ under developed African nations as rightly pointed in a few posts. Sadly the Indian in me wants to move out to be a better provider of my family which I am unable to do in India

Re: Petrol price crosses Rs. 90 / litre in Mumbai, diesel at Rs. 80

Two points

1. The treatment of middle-class taxpayers will remain the same, you can choose any party you want as the system has been designed to be socialist and now no one can take those freebies away even if it was justified. anyone we vote for will shamelessly exploit us. some people want to add their political opinion here which is unnecessary

2. another unrelated but important point is that if someone decides to move to diesel to manage his fuel bill you have a stupid 10 yr ruling despite BS6 being in place. This is further penalizing car buyers. owning a car is being treated as a luxury but based on the quality of public transport and law and order it is a necessity

Re: Petrol price crosses Rs. 90 / litre in Mumbai, diesel at Rs. 80

As few others too pointed out, I am surprised at the amount of confusion and logic that is so far off from reality that is prevailing around.

There is plenty of literature available on how the sharing between state and center of the tax revenue from fuel. It is primarily driven by the central govt.

Fuel is deregulated, meaning it is linked to crude market prices, tax on it is % of the prices. So prices fall when crude prices fall and hence taxes also fall. But over the years government has jacked up taxes multiple times to maintain mop up. Question is should government do it? I guess by all means if it is spent on growth. Is it being spent on growth? I dont know!

The real question for me is - while India grew at a fair clip when crude prices were higher, fuel prices were lower and earnings from fuel was lower. What is the extraordinary development happening in the country that needs fuel to be taxed at extraordinary levels?

To me it appears to be to cover for inefficiencies in tax collection, fall in govt revenues due to slowing down of the economy, GST inefficiencies and profligacy like statues and what not.

Re: Petrol price crosses Rs. 90 / litre in Mumbai, diesel at Rs. 80

My mind is too cluttered to even think about who and what to blame for this ever increasing rise in fuel prices.

For now, I am happy to have not sold my car with the super efficient 1.3 MJD for some thirsty turbo petrol.

The effect of diesel price rise will indirectly affect the prices of all essential commodities. I guess the government is happy building new statues, parliament buildings and temples. They turn a blind eye to everything that matters.

Re: Petrol price crosses Rs. 90 / litre in Mumbai, diesel at Rs. 80

Dear Friends (Mitron),

This is a small price we all need to pay for the luxuries of our policy makers. New Parliament building foundation stone is laid, building will be ready in 2-3 years. Don't you want to give all the world class facilities to our elected representatives ? If you don't pay these indirect taxes how will they get all the facilities, salary, bonus, pension, free travel , Z+++ security and convoy of 50 cars

No need to be selfish and think about own benefit, think about this price as a service to nation. If we don't buy fuel at Rs 100 per liter , how will our Prachar mantri sorry Pradhan mantri fly in the newly bought jets worth 8000 odd crores.

We need to make small sacrifices daily to make India strong. Stay strong friends.

#Sarcasm (for those who are going to throw stones at me without understanding my post)

Not to forget the extra Bonanza the govt. has in store for private sector employees starting next fiscal year!

Read the following article

Your Take Home Pay Shall Fall From April Next Year: Know All

Quoting from the article
Quote:
Beginning next fiscal year, private sector employees would have to bear with the cut down in salaries as employers would need to re-adjust their salaries as per the new wage rules.

The new compensation rules as part of the Code on Wages passed by Parliament last year will come into effect from the next fiscal year. And accordingly, allowances shall not be over 50% of the total compensation. So, basic pay will need to be 50% or higher from April next year.

Since the basic pay shall be revised upwards the PF contribution shall increase, likewise take home pay shall fall.

Thus as both gratuity and PF which is calculated based on the basic pay shall go higher. And likewise companies will also need to dole out a higher amount for employers' contribution to both gratuity pay out and PF kitty.
This great offer is only for all the lucky Private Sector Employees and not applicable to the poor Govt. employees.

This is like stealing from the begging bowl.

At a time when they should be doing all they can to boost demand, and all their big talk about jump starting and "recovering" the economy, they are snatching away the little we have and reducing the "disposable" income of the upper middle class and the very sustenance of the lower middle class and poor(private sector employees).

Read the article today morning. Frankly, I am not really shocked. None of this is for the benefit of employees (after all didn't this same Government amend the labor laws in favor of corporates...no one in my IT company noticed it then).

Didn't even think of sharing it here since there will be members/general public so will say 'Saab Changa Si!!' even if their in hand salary is reduced next year.

Is my understanding that the Government is eyeing increased TCS from private employees along with higher amount of PF collected correct? I find it difficult to believe that these guys will actually do anything that benefits us.

Re: Petrol price crosses Rs. 90 / litre in Mumbai, diesel at Rs. 80

Watch out! With the number of petroheads and the general sentiment in these pages, there will soon be a special tax on anyone who posts anything here. Also, I've done my bit of snooping and know all the people who'll be joining me in the queue to the gas chamber.
Mods - please delete if you wish, I know there's nothing of value in my post, but I thought I'd tax TBHP a bit to compensate for the frustration I felt at the petrol pump today.

I keep reading on this great forum rest in peace ICE (internal combustion engines) bye bye ICE , welcome the dawn of the EV's hybrids are the future, end of the ICE era so on and so forth! Well gentlemen and ladies its time people wake up and face reality, taxation on petroleum products is the greatest source of revenue for the GOVT of india, last i checked only approximate 1.6% of our countrymen paid income taxes! Where do you think the revenue is flowing in for the govt, unless and until the govt finds an alternate source of revenue apart from taxation on petroleum products to fill its coffers, be rest assured EV revolution in india will be a fairytale!
