Re: Whatever happened to Audi India? Why is the brand struggling since 2016?

While a good step, could be too little too late. I mean speaking just for my family, where once my dad, a man who had always dreamed of the three pointed star ended up with an Audi A4 that he loved for all of 3 years to the point he wanted to stay in the Audi family; now he's so irked by the brand and the lackadaisical treatment of their customers that he's ironclad in not staying with the brand and he says as much to friends and family, a few of whom also entered the Audi club about the time we did. From this thread alone it's clear a lot of well intentioned owners have become disillusioned with the brand. I mean I could scarcely believe the pricing I read for the Q2 and that was totally a car my parents had set their sights on before things went sour. Audi needs to do a lot of things right before they can steer the ship back upright again.

Re: Audi begins production of latest A4 at Aurangabad plant

Glad to hear they are relaunching it with the 190 bhp 2.0 TSI. The current 1.4 TSI was totally inappropriate for the A4.

Only fly in the ointment is that Skoda will launch the Octavia IV with the identical engine. However, that is a question Audi India is used to answering!

Strange to plonk the same engine with same tune into cars of two different segments
Why don't they introduce their 2.0 Petrol in higher tune with ~260 HP which is available in few other markets like US ?

Re: Audi begins production of latest A4 at Aurangabad plant

Glad to hear that A4 is coming as CKD. Hope price will be reasonable unlike the Audi Q2 which costs Rs.62 lakhs on road. Given the recent trend, Audi should consider CKD routes for it's SUV models such as Q5, Q3 & new Q2.

Issue is that in Audi India's positioning strategy, anything beyond the 'standard' 190 bhp moves into the 'S' range, in this case the S4. This means a explosive jump in engine output and price .

Another cause for 'worry' is that Audi was always known for super classy interiors. Now with the new Octavia IV, that advantage is also badly damaged. You'll really wonder if it is a Skoda or a Audi S car!

Audi has opened bookings for the 2021 A4. It will be powered by the 190hp 2L TFSi motor. 0-100 in 7.3 seconds. Bookings have been opened for a sum of ₹2 Lakh. With the facelift it gets the new touchscreen infotainment system.

Why do I feel like it will start from 49.99L and ruin its' prospects? Audi has been doing this consistently. The car looks smart and desirable though!

Re: Audi begins production of latest A4 at Aurangabad plant

I have a basic for Audi on this launch:

Prospect buyer with:
50L budget, and needing a diesel will head to BMW/Merc/Jaguar showroom
50L budget and needing thrills will head to BMW/Merc - 250 bhp Turbo Petrols
Lower budget/VW loyalist will get Octavia RS 245

Then whom is this launch targeting? Am I missing something?

Is this a facelift or a generation change? I don't really miss the diesel as the 2 litre petrol is decent but this has to seriously undercut both c class and 3 series to be even in the consideration set of prospective buyers. I think it can be priced at par with Skoda superb but anything higher, Audi is harming itself.

This is a facelift.

In terms of pricing, Audi really priced the Q2, A8 badly, however they have limited room in terms of pricing as the more powerful and premium A6 starts at 55L.

Plus, as you rightly said, the FWD A4 will not be the enthusiast pick (BMW), nor will it be the luxury pick (Mercedes / 3 Gran Limo). It will more likely be in the middle with its easy to drive nature, comfortable ride and rear seat.
Unfortunately in a segment ruled by the heart, I expect dismal sales and heavy discounts on what would be a practical package. Dont be surprised to see this selling for A3 money by 2021 end.

Re: Audi begins production of latest A4 at Aurangabad plant

If A4 actually sells for A3 money, that will be great. Even A6 is a great car on a stand alone basis but when e class and 5 series come in to the picture, it looks inferior. By the way, what is the difficulty for Audi to offer their sedans with RWD? Is it because of the platform or something else? Even octavia vrs deserves RWD.

It is sad to see Audi lose it's ground so fast.
