AFAIK Toyota is developing the small car from scratch so they might be testing the engine and underpinnings in this Daihatsu.

Either that or these could have been enroute to Nepal, Bhutan. Butttt, I've never seen a car going to our neighbours, with badges taped.

They had temp WB plates. Quite a few of them going in the direction away from Kolkata.

The small car had all the badges taped.

i have seen this car way back in 2007 near ritchie road, hazra crossing. same color but had the spare wheel. i was heading to college on an early june morning when i saw this and the corolla (pre altis, USA model) side by side.

i had no phone then so could not take the pics.

Ive seen new cars in car dealerships with badges taped to prevent scratches, if they were testing the cars they would have removed the badges. Another point of view is they might have kept the badges to confuse public.

We are left wondering unless some BHPians posts the some clues or some concrete information regarding the presence of these Daihatsu cars.

Can somebody please confirm if Daihatsu cars are sold in either Nepal or Bhutan?
Are the WB numberplates on these cars temporary or test plates?

According to Google, Daihatsu Terios SDX Petrol is available in Nepal for NPR 32,90,000 (INR 20.60 L)

some toyota models of USA are sold in UAE as Daihatsu models or vice versa!

Daihatsu Terios\Kid,Sirion and Cuore are common in Nepal.Temp WB plates are put on since they are driven to Nepal via Raxaul border(Bihar). Most of the times drivers love extra income by taking "savari's(passengers)" in these vehicles.Once had chance to travel in a brand new Prado driven to Nepal till the Indo-Nepalese Border from Motihari (Bihar) for just 15 bucks with instructions to take care of not tearing plastic covers on seat.

Hope Toyota is bringing the small car from the same Daihatsu platform to cut down the eng. cost etc.
Will the plant in India able to build this unit immediately? or shall be as a CBU. Wonder the pricing may reach the sky.
