re: Volkswagen Virtus, now unveiled

There's no reason for VW group to price the next Vento and Rapid at a higher premium, unless they really want to be greedy.
By the time this hits the market, MQB A0 platform will be at 95 percent localisation.

I doubt it'll be priced above the Honda City. A bit more and you're in the Octavia territory. Pricing is key in this dying segment.

Zac Hollis of Skoda has already stated that the new Rapid (i.e. Virtus clone) will be positioned higher than the existing Rapid/Vento twins.

I feel it is a good strategy overall for the VAG group:

1. Taigun & Kushaq will mop up the crossover-crazy crowd;
2. The incoming Octavia IV moves up a few lakhs;
3. Superb is discounted and picks up sales for that awesome back seat. Superb replacement in 2023;
4. Kodiaq & Tiguan continues with 2.0TSI but also comes back with the BS-VI 2.0 TDI;
5. Karoq satisfies the CBU folks;
6. The existing Vento/Rapid/Polo 1.0 TSI continues for those customers who prefer the 'Euro' feel, and
7. A chopped Virtus/ Rapid or the MQB A0 IN Polo hopefully comes in 2022.
8. This new Virtus collects the sedan crowd willing to pay for a brand new modern mini-Jetta.

Infect the thread title could be misleading.

IMO, the sedan (Virtus) for India is likely be called JETTA

See the pics of both cars,

The current Polo segment could be filled in by the MK6 Polo/ New Fabia in 2023. They will bring a sub 4 m CUV around the same timeframe too

If the car is going to be so big, I wonder if the 1.0 TSI still suffice. I feel a car of this size will need the 1.5 TSI to be relevant.

The 1.0L TSI powers the Octavia too.

Here it is, and the NEW Sedan will be priced above the current ones ( Vento/Rapid)

Skoda Rapid/ VW Vento likely to co-exist with the New sedan, but not yet revealed officially.

That's a BIG car with what looks like an enormous boot. Possibly looks a bit old-fashioned though. Hope they spice it up.

I would assume that the New Sedan will be priced on par with the current Honda City and the Rapid will exist at it's current price point.

Unlike the theory of old and new models co-existing in the market, I would like to see the new model as complete replacement with slightly aggressive pricing. Given the dynamics of sedans [Verna/City/Ciaz segment] in the market, I feel "Aggressive pricing" is the only saving grace.

From the pics, it definitely looks like Jetta category.
The 1.0 liter engine could be a India-spec to keep prices competitive via-a-vis the “hotter” Octavia.

For Skoda looks like the Rapid will co-exist while the New will move up the segment.
For VW this would likely be a Jetta replacement in terms of pricing, and could also retain the Jetta moniker too.
