Maruti's BS6 1.5L diesel engine is almost ready | EDIT: Company drops diesel plans

Ever since Maruti Suzuki discontinued the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine, there have been reports indicating that a BS6-compliant diesel engine is in the works. We now have more information on Maruti's new 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Maruti's BS6 1.5L diesel engine is almost ready | EDIT: Company drops diesel plans-2019marutixl613.jpg

We have been told that the 1.5-litre diesel unit is almost ready and will be first launched in the Ertiga and Ciaz. The same engine will also be offered in the next generation Vitara Brezza (codenamed: YXA) and possibly in the D22, which is a new crossover that is being developed in collaboration with Toyota.

Maruti Suzuki coming up with a BS6 diesel engine was a no-brainer. The share of diesel variants in the overall sales may have dropped but diesel models still constitute a very high percentage of the industry's total sales. In FY2018-19, Maruti sold about 5 lakh diesel vehicles. It is believed that the re-introduction of the 1.5-litre diesel could help Maruti regain its market share in the segment.

Wonder what Maruti's marketing department is gonna say now, after all the noise they made about "Diesel ka cost calculate kiya kya?"!

Just like Samsung had to remove tweets and other social media shots it fired at Apple (for removing the charger) after they followed suit

Curiously waiting to see how Maruti will market their diesel cars. Marketing and sales teams will have a tough job trying to convince the customers that their own ad about diesel cars was incorrect.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...60-000-km.html (Maruti now says = Diesel car costs can only be recovered after 260,000 km)

Well! Someone who is used to a torquey diesel will not need much convincing. They just need to offer a decent AT transmission, which is long overdue on a Suzuki here in India.

Any information about specs? I wish Maruti could get around 120 BHP and 250 NM torque from this engine. I have an Ertiga 1.3 Diesel and it lacks power in the Ghats when I have more than 5 people onboard. It really struggles on steep inclines and you keep looking for that extra power you need in such cases.

New Diesel will be really useful for Ertiga, Brezza, S-Cross, Ciaz etc. Surely Maruti will be able to pull more sales by the new engine.

The majority of Indian public is oblivious to that campaign. Heck, car guys outside this forum didn't see it. Even if they have seen it, in all probability they'll forget it once they see a 25+ kmpl sticker next to the car. Honestly, I wouldn't blame them. If I see a diesel Maruti is the one that fits all my requirements, I would get one. While I do believe that the ad campaign was in bad taste, it is in no way going to affect a probable future purchase decision of mine. After all, they're company just like any other. And if they stand by their products by offering good service and support, I don't think Maruti's marketing department will have too much trouble.

Is MS taking a U-Turn in terms of greener vehicles? Earlier there was a news on abandoning the WagonR EV project and now adding a BS6 diesel engine to the lineup, it seems the business direction has changed for the company.

re: Maruti's BS6 1.5L diesel engine is almost ready | EDIT: Company drops diesel plans

It was expected considering the fantastic sales figures of Kia and Hyundai diesel models. But why so late by a industry leader ? What were they thinking ?

General public memory is short. Samsung was way too quicker to mock Apple and copy them immediately in less than 2 months. Still, I'm sure they will sell good no's of thier Galaxy S21 range without chargers in box.

In case of Maruti, well, much more time has gone by now so there should not be a problem. Thier 1.5L diesel was very good in BS4 version and surely they will pull good sale with BS6 iteration.

BS6 1.5 Diesel was always on the cards. It's just that they could not develop and launch it before the new emission norms were put into place.

Can someone please download and note all those false ad campaigns from MS because they're surely going to delete it once their Diesel engines come to the marketing department. Some rivals (definitely Tata) should put them to best use of mocking them!

The same maruti or is it Suzuki who said it will take 2.65 lakh kilometers to recover the premium paid for a diesel is now coming with a 1.5 litre diesel engine. Pretty good memory they have.

In all probability, this is just a BS-VI version of the 1498cc DDiS 225/E15A Diesel engine launched by Maruti in 2019 which developed 94 BHP and 225Nm torque. It's the first engine to get a dedicated Team-BHP review. (Maruti 1.5L Diesel : Official Review (Ciaz, Ertiga))
They may tune it slightly differently but not anywhere near your expectations. I hope I will be proved wrong.

Maruti is least bothered. Ethics, morality, self-righteousness can go; take a walk! As long as it sells they'll make anything even if it runs on "gobar gas". How else do you explain senior officials of Maruti commenting on GNCAP results of S-Presso etc: "as self proclaimed results from a private entity" - or something like that, (apologies for forgetting the exact phrasing). And public memory is extremely short. Maruti fully capitalises on it.

Hypocrisy at its best!!
MS should have given a little thought while advertising their 'Calculate kiya kya' tag line.
If and when this Diesel U turn happens from MS, other car manufacturers will be like
