Ford Equator with XUV500-like dashboard spied

New images of the Ford Equator 7-seat SUV have leaked online. The latest images reveal the car's dashboard which looks quite similar to the upcoming Mahindra XUV500.

The Equator is manufactured by Ford's Chinese partner Jiangling Motors Corporation Ltd. The SUV measures 4,905 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, 1,755 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,865 mm.

In terms of styling, the Equator features a bold front end with a large black grille with L-shaped LED daytime running lights on either side. Triple pod headlamps are positioned lower down on the bumper - a setup similar to the MG Hector.

In side profile, the Equator looks like a smaller version of the Endeavour with the rear featuring slim tail lamp clusters and a light bar in between. The test car was riding on stylish looking silver alloy wheels.

The Equator gets a dual-tone interior with a large floating display that houses the instrument cluster on one side and the touchscreen infotainment on the other. Apart from the gaudy colour combination, the car gets wooden trim. The overall layout of the dashboard is similar to the next-gen Mahindra XUV500. The car is equipped with features such as climate control, panoramic sunroof and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The Ford Equator is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 218 BHP. It is expected to be offered in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions.

Re: Ford Equator with XUV500-like dashboard spied

The interiors are not ford-like in my opinion and looks too flashy.
Also, the display looks like bezel-less and rounded corners design compared to XUV5OO's.

One more observation is that, for seating position of an SUV, the Instrument cluster seems to be too vertical and might cause visibility issues in bright sunlight.

Re: Ford Equator with XUV500-like dashboard spied

The maroon dashboard reminds me of the previous generation Ford Figo, this colour combination is ruining the sophisticated look, and completely steals the focus from the infotainment system. Hope the maroon colour dashboard don't end up in other markets. Rest of the SUV looks good, especially the side profile.

Coincidence?
I think not.

The front head lamp design reminds me of the Renault Kiger. Regardless of that, it look big and imposing. Hopefully, the interior would look and feel better in person.

Considering the source image is from a Chinese site, it could be beyond coincidence that it's a rebadged Baojun, which has already been rebadged to Chevrolet & MG

This looks like a GM product was forced to wear the Ford badge at gun point.

Don't think so.
Except for the Merc like horizontal screen.

The XUV500 has the screen set inside the dashboard, while the Equator has a tablet kind of setup sticking out.
The XUV500 seems to have an angular theme while the Equator has a curvy theme.
The XUV500 has a the central console meeting the dashboard at almost right angle, while the Equator central console is raked upwards.
Also guess the XUV500 steering has more of a deep dish look.

Now that's a pleasant surprise.
Guess we have a Ford Territory replacement then.

Surely would be based on the new Ford Explorer platform or its derivative.

Re: Ford Equator with XUV500-like dashboard spied

I don’t really think that this car has anything to do with the Ford W605 project or the XUV500. Nowadays many cars sport similar looking dashboards, and this one resembles the one on the upcoming XUV just because of the placement of the AC vents and infotainment screen. Other than that, the shape and size of the AC vents, switch placements, screen dimensions etc. seem to be completely different from the XUV.

Upcoming XUV500:

Chinese Ford SUV:

In fact, this dashboard looks similar even to the Tata Altroz and the Hyundai i10 Nios as well, so I think this is a very generic layout nowadays:

I think this car sits above the Endeavour/Everest, Competing in the Toyota Highlander territory.

And yes the car definitely looks Chinese and not at all a Ford-like product. This is obvious as the car is developed along with JMC and the engine belongs solely to JMC-AVL.

Re: Ford Equator with XUV500-like dashboard spied

How did Ford end up designing a car that looks more like MG hector?
Ford always had a very different design language that stood out. This one will get lost in the group.
I don't think the title of this thread is fair. There really isn't much to link this with the XUV 500.

Because it comes from the same place as the Baojun 530.

True, this looks so unFord like. But then from the review videos shown above, this is supposed to be Ford's new global design language outside USA.

True, the thread title should be changed to just the Ford Equator.
