Re: Mercedes, BMW, Audi & other luxury brand sales in 2021

Might be a silly question but I see Mercedes split between MB AG and MB India Pvt Ltd. Could someone explain why the split and what each subdivision then is responsible for please?

If I am not wrong, Mercedes Benz India Pvt. Ltd. (MBIL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the German Daimler AG. MBIL is responsible for the manufacturing of the Indian CKD units, with headquarters in Pune, Maharashtra, India.

Whereas, Mercedes Benz AG, headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany is a direct subsidiary of Daimler AG but it is responsible for the manufacturing of all the CBU units which we see in India.

Hence, as per the FADA report:
  • MBIL represents the CKD units.
  • MB AG represents the CBU units.

Thanks for that! I still don't see why you'd need two separate entities to build each type of assembly in India. I take it that Mercedes are the only ones who have adopted this separate approach to their CKD and CBU units. Is this for tax reasons or a remnant of the Telco partnership days? It just strikes me as being a puzzling setup

Comes as no surprise. Mercedes current line up of cars are so good and so attractive, there is little reason to consider anything else among the European or German marques. Truly living up to the tag line of The Best or Nothing.

Mostly to keep the main company different from Import related issues. A lot of these companies are almost always working smartly on transfer prices and will prefer a separate trading company. Nothing to do with Telco.

Even BMW has a different setup for such imports but I think they also retail domestic production via that trading company. The plant first bills to that company. This is from my limited info from past and things might have changed.

Thanks for sharing this.

However, two questions:

- Is this 100% accurate, Audi is at just 99 units whereas Mercedes and BMW are many times that? o_O

- What is the difference between Mercedes-Benz India Pvt Ltd, Mercedes-Benz AG and Daimler AG?

Re: Mercedes leads luxury segment with 4,101 units in Q3 2021

Analysing QoQ growth against 2020 is a bit cynical, given that last year we were in the middle of massive lockdowns and financial turmoil. With that said however, it's amazing to see brands like Mercedes post such robust sales figures with all things considered. How are these figures compared to BMW and Audi?

Best Quarter for the three biggies (Merc, BMW, Audi)

ET Bureau: reports that July-September quarter was the best in nearly 3 years for the premium Merc, BMW, and Audi collectively selling over 8500 units with Mercedes taking more than 50% of the pie at 4010 units.
