Team-BHP Support ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not much news at the top, but it is interesting to see Jaguar-Land Rover taking away sales from the German brands. Volvo too is climbing. Of course, what is hurting both of these brands is the lack of a diesel engine across the range. That is perhaps the no. 1 reason behind the drop in sales compared to 2020. Here is an excellent related thread (Mercedes, BMW & Audi sales in India from 2010-2020 | Growth numbers are disappointing) Wow! That is truly impressive. If they price the Macan & Cayenne better (there is a lot of room for improvement), plan the variants better & offer quicker deliveries, they can easily triple sales. Quote:

Really curious to know what the distribution is from JLR figure. I am guessing Evoque and Discovery must be the top grossing ones, and then perhaps the XJ? Someone please enlighten! |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() So Mercedes sells 859 + 649 = 1508 cars in January-February. If my math is right, they sold 1685 cars in March alone? They didn't because not all sales are in FADA's system. It would have been nice if this was made clear somewhere in this thread. |

This figure from Mercedes would be the dispatches from the factory while FADA figures mentioned in this thread are the actual vehicles getting registered after being sold. The remaining delta would be unsold vehicles in dealer inventory. |

| ![]() FADA figures for Mercedes for Jan-March (Mercedes-Benz India Pvt Ltd + Mercedes-Benz AG) January: (780+32) = 812 February : (627+22) = 649 March : (830+29) = 859 Total = 2320 Source FADA does not include sales from Telengana, Andhra Pradesh and MP along with some few more smaller ones. That will account for the rest of the sales + inventory. |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() BMW has sold more cars then Mercedes but that's probably because Mercedes doesn't have any stock remaining to sell as per their own advertisements. |

| ![]() I believe BMW sales figures would also include sales from the Mini lineup, I see a quite a few of them roaming around in Delhi, so I assume the 800 figure would include a few hindered Mini's. |

| ![]() Luxury car sales are really down from last year. Partly to do with the fact that these manufacturers have ridiculous pricing and most buyers in this market have realised that you can get a better car from a VW or Skoda or Kia or even Toyota at a fraction of the price. Even for an enthusiast these brands don't offer much. Most of the range has mediocre petrols and a reasonably excited diesel. Luxury car makers will have to rationalise their pricing and put an end to the discounting tactic they currently follow. It's just not sustainable. |

Infractions: 0/1 (5) | ![]() I stand in awe of the stark difference with our neighbors. In China, all the 3 luxury brands (BMW, audi and Mercedes) sold more than 7,20,000 each in the year 20-21. We talk about a few thousands. 3 key factors stand out. 1. Our governments for the past 20 years have failed to increase the real wealth of the masses and China is successful in this. 2. Their policy making around automobiles, taxes and manufacturing is crisp and consistent. 3. That country is hungry and no government force can make unwilling people work. Chinese people are ambitious. |
