Regular petrol hits a century for the first-ever time in India

Normal petrol crosses Rs.100 per litre mark in two states, Rajasthan and Madhyapradesh. Petrol & diesel prices are increased in India over the years due to massive increase in excise duty. Excise duty of petrol has been increased by 258.4 percent and diesel by 820 percentage during last 7 years.

"After fuel rates were hiked for the ninth day in a row, price of petrol reached Rs 100 mark for the first time ever in India. According to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers, petrol and diesel prices were increased by 25 paise per litre each. In Sriganganagar town of Rajasthan, petrol price soared to Rs 100.13 a litre on Wednesday"

re: Regular petrol hits a century for the first-ever time in India

Think of it as:
a) your contribution to nation building
b) penalty for increasing pollutants and green-house gas on this earth

To be honest, when Petrol/Diesel become expensive then the alternative fuels / engines / supply chain will also start looking viable.

The nations is us, we the people. My father runs a distribution firm having 6 LCVs. The monthly diesel expense is increased by around Rs.60000 per month after March. Can you suggest some alternatives? He is considering stopping the business. But around 16 people will lose job. Is that the penalty for increasing pollutants by running diesel trucks ?

Never thought of it like that. There was really a latent environmentalist lying hidden in so many Indians. A vocal minority mainly seen in social media wants Indians to cycle, pay penalty for green house gas, & walk to workplace in response to rampant taxation.

We Indians will become fitter like Cubans became when US declared economic embargo on Cuba. Our economy will also resemble Cuba eventually.

a) Contribution is something we do with our own will, not forceful.
b) will this penalty be in anyway used to reduce our carbon footprint???

re: Regular petrol hits a century for the first-ever time in India

I seriously don't understand why does salaried class, which is tax giving entity by force, whine when petrol or diesel prices go north?

Consider it from this angle, governmemt always needs money and will gather it by any mean.

Burden of extra excise duty on fuel is shared by everyone, directly by fuel prices and indirectly by higher transportation cost leading to more inflation, burden goes on everyone and not just on salaried class.

Government could have increased more taxes on salaried class or could have gone for a radical idea of linking petrol/diesel purchase to aadhar and thus indirectly getting linked to your itr return, based on your tax filing bracket (10,20,30) your fuel rate is decided.

For no itr , you get it for 70rs, 10% tax bracket gets it for 80 rs, 20% gets it for 100 rs, 30% gets it for 150 and above get it for 200 rs a ltr.

Linking fuel price to aadhar is intended for fun only but this kept aside, if burden goes on every citizen of this country then why to worry?

Am I missing something which causes more hit to salaried class by fuel price hike? I'm just focusing on salaried class concerns.

Excise duty / price reduction has to come from the respective states too. It is not exactly the centre gobbling up all revenue.
Also - all states have vehemently opposed bringing Fuel & Liquor under GST.

Now one has to refrain from mindlessly redlining the i-vtecs and 1.0 turbo petrols of VAG to save more fuel from burning unnecessarily

The day is not far when car manufacturers ask media houses to bring their own petrol/diesel
BYOF (bring your own fuel) to review cars during media drives.

I was telling about the reason for price hike. Diesel excise duty went up by Rs.28. What will be the price of diesel if the excise duty was same as that of 2014? It will be 86- 28-7( around 30 percent reduction of VAT), which will be Rs.51.

Road mannerism of vehicles still remains the same. No riding sedately or switching off their bikes in the signal.

It's either the income levels have far surpassed the expenses or that the slow increase didn't give the necessary impetus for people to protest.

It's cheaper to avoid protesting rather than pay for lawyers to fight against your sedition case while in jail. Atleast that's what is happening if you protest.

More than that, people have lost all hope to even bother.

Won't even be surprised if diesel prices hit the century too. There'll always be justification in whatsapp eitherway.

re: Regular petrol hits a century for the first-ever time in India

Acche din aagaye.

Monetary resources are precious in this time and age, please do not squander them away on liquid gold.. eat less, consume less and travel less, because all 3 are dependent on fuel prices. This is not an anti-national talking, just a human being, concerned about the 1-2 punch we've all been receiving thanks to Covid-19 and Petrol-100.

For far too long we the people in the middle have swallowed every bitter pill possible but it just keeps piling on, and on, and on. Far too many will translate this as contribution, progress and a 6er against pollution, but since a minority think differently and are shut down for being disruptors in the parliament, clearly I see democracy eroding as fast as I do, prices rising.

There are those who refer to India as the world’s largest democracy while democracy has eroded a long time ago and we are now the world’s largest flawed democracy.

Gold.

Our fly by night environmentalists may now object to your equating the self-inflicted century with the China virus. Both life changing events in their own way. China virus changed the way world lives, interacts and travels while the century turned an emerging asian power into a nation that aspires to emulate the Cuban system of fitness. Believe me the day isn't far when we will ban cars and personal transportation just like Cuba and make do with old jalopies and scavenge old parts to make these cars run.

Who would have thought !
