February 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

What a debut by Safari? This segment is really heating up. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out once the new XUV5OO is out.

Dzire the only sedan in top 20. And good showing by Tata of course. Good that they have a launch coming up below Nexon. They should focus on a direct Creta and Seltos rival. Hyundai/Kia have been running away with it in this segment. The problem is there's too much overlap with Nexon and Harrier and would be tough to fit in another vehicle in there.

Safari is back to reclaim its and our lives. Great going Tata. Creta and Seltos keeping up the steam with no clear competition from any manufacturer.
Magnite and Kiger makes 6000+ copies. Hope they sustain to keep Renault and Nissan busy.
The most heartbreaking outcome is the Sales Manufacturer Origin distribution chart which is ruled by the KITNA and the two lazy gang.

Re: February 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Good dispatch numbers from Magnite and Kiger (~3000 units).
Polo going strong with ~2000 units!
Are Compass's ~1000 numbers due to the updated version launch?
Overall, total dispatches remain same (~30x,xxx units). Are we seeing saturation (or close to peak) post Covid?

It seems Hyundai delivered ~12000 Cretas last month. However I am seeing posts on other creta owner forums, that people have not yet gotten deliveries even after waiting 2 3 months! What's at play here ? Is that much backlog present with creta

Creta has a waiting period of 16 to 24 weeks. Even longer for the lower variants. The E Diesel reportedly has a 9 to 12 month waiting period.

Re: February 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Tata has 3 models in top 20, slowly gaining to the place that it deserves. Hornbill might make it's 3rd position secured firmly, but they need more models to take on Hyundai.

Kiger-Magnite sibling battle starts and will be interesting to see who will gain more.

Mahindra is bleeding chips in the game! First time that Bolero numbers are low when the overall sale figures are decent. Thar is a savior for now, new XUV5OO and Scorpio launches are most important to keep it's market share. Also, Mahindra should focus more on making XUV3OO better than having KUV1OO in portfolio and learn from Tata's Nexon way of marketing it as safe vehicle.

Fortuner back in the game! Toyota should bring more of it's own products to India, they enjoy good profitable margin and sales despite overpriced cars. I don't understand why they won't!

Re: February 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

The totals for Maruti are showing as 144761 whereas if you add up the total of the numbers for the various models in Feb it is showing up as 144311. Can someone else confirm this as well please? This difference of 450 is inflating the total numbers as well

Re: February 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

My observations:
1) It may be a coincidence but most of the top gainers(month on month) are safe and well built cars.
2) Glad to see Harrier numbers, consistently 2k per month.
3) VW polo is still a top performer from VAG. VW group's numbers will rapidly grow because of Kushaq and Taigun. There are lakhs of existing CSUV users(sub 4m) who purchased csuvs from last 6-7 years. They don't have much of options to upgrade apart from Creta\Seltos. Harrier and xuv500 are expensive. Hope vw/skoda don't screw up pricing and cash it well.
4) I'm think most of the growth in ecosport numbers is because of Titanium variant with extra safety features and sunroof.
5) Surprised to see City losing the numbers, even after having 4th gen and 5th gen together.
6) Nissan and Renault are back in the game. All the best to the duo.

Because the most unsafe ones are already at the top of the sales chart. So, there isn't much scope for sales gain.
