Not sure how many of you notice but those wipers on an overall handsome car are an eyesore.
I have never seen any of the VAG cars with conventional standard frame wipers, always seen their cars with aesthetically appealing frameless wipers. This is one of the places where they have cut corners, I believe there will be many areas, only time will tell.

re: The Skoda Kushaq crossover, now unveiled!

Indian market loves gizmo laden cars (companies call them 'features', which makes 'creature attractions' sound better). And therefore, by that definition, Skoda seems to have missed the bus. I find it interesting that better engineering is often not considered in feature list!
  • Panoramic sunroof is more important than NCAP rating - for the market
  • Digi cockpit is more important than driving dynamics - for the market
  • 360 degree camera is more important than superior engine and gearboxes - for the market

First reaction - KUSHAQ might not be able to carve the mass market share VW-Skoda crave for now.

That's where KIA got it right I feel. It gets most aspects better than good enough, while excelling at features India loves. Barring the NCAP rating of course!

Of course, none of us have ridden the car - so, all of this is theoretical gyan as of now!

Here are my reasons -
No WOW features. No panoramic sunroof, no Electronic parking brake, no 360 camera, no digital cockpit, no air purifier. paddle shifters (??). I have a Vento TSI and the speedo console is one of the things I hate the most in my car. It just looks so outdated. Seems like Skoda is using a similar console for a car released in 2021, which is pathetic to say the least.
No rear disc brakes. Given that Skoda is shouting so much about safety, this is unacceptable I hope I am proven wrong and the 1.5 TSI comes with rear discs.
Dimensionally, it is slightly smaller and even the boot space is less.

It seems to me that Skoda has really worked hard to keep the costs in check and hopefully it should result in a very aggressive price. I am confident that it will undercut Creta/Seltos by 50K - 1L (from lower to higher variants). And by no means this can be called King of the segment, which Skoda wants us to believe.
Completely agee about the digital cockpit. It's excruciating to expect it all along and they don't offer something that's already in their inventory

re: The Skoda Kushaq crossover, now unveiled!

I found the design ends rather abruptly with stubby rear end and the bumper almost flush with the tailgate/lights. Wonder what were the designers' constraints here.

Lovely thoughtful interior touches abound and two wonderful drive-train options (without a lame version)

Just a quick question, in the Autocar India review the boot seemed deep but small. In fact, the reviewer mentioned the boot space to be only 285 litres? Is that right or did I hear it wrong?

The boot is 385 Litres.

Is there any mention of e-Sim / connected car tech? Heard Zac talking about the latest in connectivity options but this was not clear.

re: The Skoda Kushaq crossover, now unveiled!

Just watched the unveil. Nicely done and props to the guys at Skoda.

I also watched a walkaround video to see the finer details. I find some niceties missing though. Like the wipers which could have been the frameless types (the rear one as well), the boot space cover which is that flimsy type which comes on the Polo, no dampers on the grab handles which makes that thud sound while it hits the headliner etc. I mean you go the whole hog giving wireless CarPlay on the 10” screen with spare wheel subwoofer, paddle shifts for the DSG variant, LED headlights and taillights but skimped on these for the top end variant which would have cost a pittance to upgrade.

If they do a Rapid Rider pricing on this and start the base variant Ambition at say 8.99 lakhs, it could be a cracker of a deal! Sounds too good to be true but hey the launch price of the Rapid Rider was 7.5 lakhs so why not?

re: The Skoda Kushaq crossover, now unveiled!

As someone who dropped a considerable premium above this on the Karoq, I’m very happy with my choice in every way! The main doubt i had while getting my ride was the launch of Kushaq with all features at a lower price.

Also, models shown in every video i could see were 1.0 TSI.
It might be possible the 1.5 TSI’s get some additional features like a virtual cockpit.

But, the product is superb and, if priced competitively, we could be seeing a lot of these soon!

re: The Skoda Kushaq crossover, now unveiled!

A few things which they could have integrated better I feel.
1. The infotainment bezels are a bit too large and take away the premium feel from it. Wonder how the 7" ones would look on the lower varients.
2. The rear space looks tight after looking at the zigwheels video. Not sure if the person sitting was a bit too healthy or the actual space is less specially considering the longest wheel base in the segment.
3. The headroom in the front and the rear could have been a little better.
The Kushaq looks more of a comparison with the Sonet/Venue top end models than the Creta/Seltos.

re: The Skoda Kushaq crossover, now unveiled!

It will be difficult going for the Kushaq 1.5 TSI Vs the Korean twins even if it's priced in the same ballpark. However the 1.0 tsi TC if priced around 12-13 ex showroom will significantly impact the Sonet and Venue turbo models since the Kushaq has far more backseat space compared to the two baby Koreans.

.
Tushar (from Zigwheels) is quite a tall guy. Well over six feet. Considering that, the rear seat has reasonably good space.

The implementation of the touch-based A/C controls does not look intuitive from the pics at least.

Hope Skoda has done their research around this and the implementation should not be similar to what was there on the previous gen Honda city which made Honda go back to physical knobs in the new gen.

Also, no electric adjustment for the driver seat and offering a monchrome MID in today's time at least Skoda could have offered a coloured MID even if it would have been in a single colour only.

Finally, when Skoda was focusing on space and comfort as a USP they could have made the back seat angle reclinable to offer better backseat experience similar to what is there on the Korean twins.
