I really wonder if Honda is selling more Civics than Corolla. Ok Wards Auto, Consumer Reports and Automotive News data is proprietary and cannot be posted, Honda and Toyota do post their US sales data (model wise) on their US operations website. From their posted data, it does seem that Honda is reporting Civic sales at lower than Corolla.

For 2006, Toyota in US reported Corolla sales of 387388, an increase of 13.9% over 2005. Honda reported US Civic sales of 316638, an increase of 3%. Guess which number is larger. For 2005, Corolla was 341290, whereas Civic was 308415. Guess, if the gap has narrowed or widened between Corolla and Civic. The above Civic figures also includes Civic Hybrid. Civic non hybrid or regular sold 285385 in 2006, an increase of 1% over 282551 in 2005.

Accord sold 354441 in 2006, a decline of 3.7% over 2005 sales of 369293. Camry sold 448445 in 2006, an increase of 4.2% over 431703 in 2005.

In Europe, while Honda's sales (all models) increased 6.8% in 2006 to 238391, Toyota's increased 11.7% to 852857. Toyota is 5th in Europe, and has a 5.8% share in Europe sales of 14.77 million in 2006, as compared with 10.9% for VW, 8.3% for renault, 8.2% for Ford, 7.2% for Peugeot, and 1.7% for Honda.

In Japan for Apr06-Mar07, Toyota sold 1406377 cars for 31% share. Next are Honda with 639867 for 14% share, Nissan 626848 cars, and Daihatsu (also of Toyota) with 497492. Thus, incl. Toyota, daihatsu and hino, toyota sold 1903869 cars in Japan for 41.8% share.

Look at the link below. Chevrolet Aveo is the "least satisfying" small car in US. Good choice for GM here! Honda models top the"most satisying" small cars list.

And I guess their performance in India (sales) is pretty much in sync with this .....

Possible tech specs of the new corolla to come up next year:

Probable engines[for India]:
Diesel
2.0L D4D
Power-126bhp
Torque-300Nm

Petrol
1.8L Dual VVT-i
Power-130bhp@6,000rpm
Torque-173Nm@4400rpm

Dual VVT-i meaning valve timing is adjusted on both intake and exhaust valves

There is a rumour that toyota might further reduce prices of the present corolla to almost NHC levels or even lower maybe[don't know if they will tinker with the engines].This works out cheaper for toyota than introducing the vios here.

Also means that toyota may just sell the new corolla and the old corolla[with a new name] side by side in India too.

Ps: This is so far not officially confirmed from toyota.

the new corolla aint bad but the civic still looks far better than it. its not gonna do as well in the 1.8 petrol segment but the diesel, would prove to be the sales puller.
