Maruti Ertiga is 3 stars [Link]. That is the highest for a car based on Heartect Platform I think - rest are 2 stars or so. And it was a comfortable 3 stars at 9.25 score and not a just-pass like Seltos at 8.03. The India made Ignis also scored 9.99 but that is for the model sold in Africa. The India made sold in India Ignis is not known/untested.

Marazzo is 4 stars (with a score of 12.85) - Link

Marazzo getting 4 stars is quite an achievement by Mahindra considering that the kerb weight of Marazzo is a hefty 1650 Kg. Compare this with around 1200 kg for both Sonet and Ertiga. Getting a higher score for a heavier car is more difficult. Also a heavier vehicle with the same or simillar safety rating will be more safer than a lighter vehicle. Hence in real world scenarios a Marazzo would be much safer than a Seltos/Ertiga more than the one star difference would suggest.

Looking at the rear quarter glass, doesn’t look like they have increased the length of the car, will be really cramped in the 3rd row!

Re: Seven-seat Kia Sonet to be unveiled on 8th April

Hyundai-Kia is directly pitching it against MS now! especially Kia. Makes sense too. Introduce a competing model to MS's best sellers and introduce it at a hefty premium, and hurt MS in the long run by reinforcing their "poor" image that is already hurting MS in India.

Re: Seven-seat Kia Sonet to be unveiled on 8th April

Looking at the bech seat and non existent boot space, seems like Sonet shaped Go Plus! They should really learn space utilisation from Renault like what they've done in the Triber. Wishing this model all the very best.

Happy to see the 3-Point Seat Belts and Height Adjustable Headrests for the last row passengers along with Cup/Mobile holders etc. Hope they have worked on providing some cool conditioned air to the last row passengers also, and they don't sweat it out during long journeys.

Re: Seven-seat Kia Sonet to be unveiled on 8th April

Kia missed it by just a whisker

April fool's day was last Monday. Expecting someone to climb through that small space between the seats and the door, and then asking them to sit in a very crouched and uncomfortable position in that narrow space (boot?) with very little light coming in, should probably be the joke of this year

But I guess the Indonesian market loves MPVs, so maybe this is an attempt to please them and get some volumes.

Re: Seven-seat Kia Sonet to be unveiled on 8th April

There are no changes in the length of the vehicle.
The 5 seater Sonet sold in Indonesia was already 4120mm in length and that is only due to more protrusion of bumpers than the Indian variant.

Just a new bench has been placed in the boot.

Re: Seven-seat Kia Sonet to be unveiled on 8th April

The lack of window space in the third row is scary to even look at in images. I wonder how cramped it maybe in actual usage.

With this logic every 5 seater hatchback/compact SUV can become a 7 seater.

I think having those extra seats bolted on roof would have been better. In India many wild life sanctuaries would have picked up these for safaris.

Re: Seven-seat Kia Sonet to be unveiled on 8th April

It would have been better to provide split 3rd row so as it can be used as 6 seater with some luggage room to spare. Otherwise half of third row should be removable ala Triber as it will increase the luggage space further.

Re: Seven-seat Kia Sonet to be unveiled on 8th April

Ridiculous to say the least. I am reminded of people making their kids sit in the boot of the Alto so that some more adults can be accommodated!

The only way to teach Manufacturers a lesson for such Jugaad is by voting with foot.

Re: Seven-seat Kia Sonet to be unveiled on 8th April

This will never sell decently in India. Remember the BRV and the Go+. Much cheaper 7 seaters and next did anything close to decent sales.

And for anyone look for a seven seater in that range, the Ertiga makes for a much more compelling offering.

Drive on,
