At least, this one was a spoof. Tata Motors did this themselves(!) for Manza replacing the Fuehrer with Tanuka San!

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I must say, around a month or two ago I was criticizing Mahindra for not creating any sort of hype for the XUV7OO, especially since the Alcazar had risen in popularity so quickly. But now, with the teasers, the camouflaged cars, etc. this launch has arguably become the most awaited launch this year.

With so many gizmos, how will Mahindra escape the semiconductor chip shortage problem? If Tata-JLR cannot source enough chips, definitely Mahindra won't be able to. This will handicap them and thus even if the vehicle manages to create a buzz, it might be production limited.

I think you are spot-on! It would most definitely be production limited (atleast for the top-end models) and hence expect longer wait period for delivery. This would be a norm for all new launches in the next 12-18months period i guess.

Good day to recap some of this disruption.
Those visuals and that 10.8 lacs ticket price made the biggest splash.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I was just scrolling Instagram when I saw some photos of the XUV700 in camouflage that were not posted on this forum.

This photo shows the camera located on the ORVM of the car. Not sure if it for the blind-spot assistance like the one that was available on the Honda Civic (now discontinued) or for the 360 degree camera. Feels like it is integrated for the latter.

Am attaching this pic in order to prove that the above pic is not from some other test mule car.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Got a chance to test drive both the petrol as well as diesel AT version of the XUV 700. The car was impressive from both inside and outside, could see huge refinement with the fit and finish. The infotainment screen is really WIDE (more than 22 inches), the NVH levels were pretty much the same between the diesel as well as the petrol version and it also has a plethora of autonomous features. Hats off to Mahindra for pulling off such an humongous task. They definitely have a winner here. Planning on booking the vehicle as soon as the booking starts.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

So I wonder what could the omissions be that would ruin the XUV700 in the eyes of our esteemed members? The usual points beings 1.Sunroof 2. Automatic transmission 3. 4*4/AWD 4. Ventilated seats 5. 360 degree camera 6. Lane Assist 7. ADAS 8. Android/apple play 9. Auto IRVM seems to have been covered well by Mahindra & Mahindra. The engine department seems to be the only concern or is there anything else missing?

Engine department is hardly any concern.
200Hp from the Petrol & 185Hp from the diesel, are class leading numbers.

Mahindra's engines are also fairly reliable.
And both the above powertrains are already doing duty (albeit with less power tune) in other products like Thar, XUV500 etc.

In my view, the real concern are the electronics, sensors etc.
Mahindra's electronics are not the best out there, in terms of reliability and longevity.

Which dealer had a TD vehicle ? I went to Koncept in Noida and they had NO idea of when the bookings will even start, forget about a potential TD. Any idea whether bookings will also start tomorrow ?

They were media vehicles without any camouflage not actual TD vehicles. No idea about the booking details.

I am not as lucky as you are, but had visited Mahindra dealer for a test drive of Thar (just for fun) and luckily got the same SA who sold me my XUV5OO 5 years back.
During the discussion, he revealed he could experience XUV 7OO when it was at their dealership a while back and couple of things were apparent to him-
  • The overall length of the vehicle didn't seem to change just that the body styling makes the car look bulk.
  • The car definitely has a much better quality of materials, fit and finish
  • Driving dynamics are well sorted and there is an improvement in ride comfort as well
  • Finally, he confirmed on inclusion of ADAS features as well

Please take the above points with a pinch of salt as there is a good chance most of it might just be a sales pitch as he is aware I am in market for a new car

I understand Mahindra products are best considered after the first year of launch for niggle free ownership (been there), but whatever Mahindra might like to call this, it still comes across as a evolution then a new variant,(for sure it's not a new product). The niggles if any would be limited to the tech features that would be loaded in this product (I truly hope ADAS if offered is truly world class and not just a gimmick and niggle free) at the time with my 5 year ownership experience I can vouch for the Engine, Transmission of their product.
I am not very keen on XUV 7OO as I am looking for something different this time (Tiguan, Superb, Maybe a Taigun or City) and not looking to have the same wine in new bottle, but I would be looking forward to this launch and maybe Mahindra proves me wrong and makes a good enough case for me to consider it.

From what i could test, they seem to have a subject detection in foreground based Machine Learning model which takes inputs from cameras to brake automatically at slow speeds. It is definitely going to be useful in certain scenarios like bumper to bumper traffic for instance. It is a promising feature on paper and the best part is that it's an Indian Automotive Organisation which is trying to redefine the whole ecosystem.
