No ventilated seats? In addition, many features are work-in progress (coming soon). Looks like the car is not yet ready, with the distorted images shared on social media, M&M management might have thought to showcase the car, features and put an end to negative publicity.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Overall, a pretty satisfactory reveal and it ticks most boxes for my expectations out of it.

However, two points of concern:

1) Zip, Zap, Zoom? This nomenclature is not even funny, it's downright ugly. Simple Green, Comfort and Sport won't have hurt that much, would it? Then again, they're competing with Hector, Creta and Seltos.

2) Optional AWD: Can't wait to get scammed by Olx dealers 2-3 years down the line when the ad screams AWD but then it's actually not. Mahindra should have just had a separate dedicated model called AX7 Pro Max or something that would strictly be AWD. Looking for an AT-AWD XUV500 in the used market has been like searching a needle in the haystack for me. Well, can't say things will improve without clear model definition.

XUV 7OO media drive track:

Quote:
This is Mahindra’s new SUV track spread (MSPT) over 454 acres built by L&T & designed by Spain’s IDIADA (both also responsible for NATRAX). Cost ₹510 crore, located on outskirts of Chennai, has 20 tracks including a High Speed oval & 4x4 Adventure track that enthusiasts can also drive on from second half of next year.
Media drive on the hotly anticipated XUV7OO there tomorrow:

2021 Mahindra XUV700: engine and gearbox

Quote:
Power for the new XUV700 comes from either a petrol or diesel powertrain. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol Mahindra mStallion unit is tuned to produce 200hp and 380Nm. On the other hand, the diesel is a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder mHawk turbocharged unit that will come in two states of tune. The lower state unit (reserved for the entry level version) will produce 155hp and 360Nm, while the unit in higher variants will churns out 185hp and 420Nm (450Nm with the automatic gearbox). The diesel engine also comes with four drive modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom and Custom – that are claimed to alter performance and steering response.

Both engines can be had with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox options, though the lower-spec diesel will only be available with a manual. There is also an all-wheel-drive model on offer.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

- Not significantly better looker than previous generation
- Initial impressions suggest premium feel & feature loaded (will have to see after reviews)
- AWD is the USP XUV700 (missing from competitors)
- This segment is not big (Safari + Hector + XUV < 6K units), not sure of rationale behind 3 engine move
- Also, MX & AX series will create positioning confusion. My hunch was that the reason behind 500 to 700 badge change is to enter a higher segment, but having 155Hp engine is a safe approach catering to both 500 & 700 segment (this jack of all trade approach mostly fails in aspirational product segments).

Success depends on pricing, its below the hype created in last 6 months
Anything above Safari pricing will be disastrous

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

The reveal has not revealed any new features but has confirmed a few rumours like the mouthwatering 200 PS Petrol engine, ADAS and the Mercedes like digital screens. One feature that feels like a glaring omission though is ventilated/cooled seats. Or is it too petty a feature infront of the rest that they did not bother to reveal it?

Looks very impressive, kudos to Mahindra. Does not look ugly at all but seems similar to current xuv especially the side profile. Can't wait for pricing and drive reviews.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Mass Ka baap is back ! 50K enthusiasts were watching the live webcast.

Design looks good except the front grille, will have plenty of replacements.
Features in AdrenoX series looks quite good. They have mentioned a lot of highlighting features like Sony 360 sound, 360 view camera, smart door handles, EPB, blind view monitoring and wireless charging will be announcing as optional pack at a later date, may be due to the chip shortages.

Powertrains looks spot on as expected also petrol Thar owners are praising the unit very well.

It looks like deliveries will be starting with the MX series only, due to the chip shortages.

Feature lists are quite a shocker for Korean and Sino competition.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I expected a much more elaborate and lengthier debut video tough.
Design looks decent to say the most for now, and not overly done.
Shape looks more or less like the XUV500, but I'm sure the dimensions are bigger overall.

The interiors look very well done in the short video, and the features are a highlight with the Visteon infotainment system on board, looks promising. Have to wait to experience it in real.

I'm hoping that the Mahindra has worked on making a step up in terms of mechanical bits like chassis, ride and suspension is done better this time around, as especially its up against the Tata Safari with the Land Rover derived Omega arc platform.

The final car did do justice to its btrilliant silouhette, thank God. Asthetically I still prefer the Safari, but this car looks great as well (barring that grill). If the engine and features are as good as what they have promised, then a top end AWD car is most likely going to be in my garage by the end of the year :-)

Okay the logo in some pictures definitely looks like a butterfly. I am not sure if it's the angle or maybe it will look better in person but it is unmistakably looking like a butterfly in some of the above photos.

I like the car but damn how did the design team go ahead with this.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

The good bits:
Almost Xc60 like wheel arches and the wedge shaped profile.
Decent looking wheels, neater tail end
Good powerful engines, best Mahindra interior yet
Loaded with tech and equipment

The bad bits:
Height is lowered to be slightly shorter than the new Thar
Hideous front grill, is it stolen from an old Scross?
200ps petrol engine may return single digit fuel economy, considering that this car may weigh in excess of two tons.

Um, I still don't like the front end - just too overstyled. However, I don't mind the resemblance to the older XUV 500 as it was already a handsome car. Mahindra clearly has a winner here if they price it properly. It can pull some potential Creta or Seltos buyers as the car sure does have bling.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Overall:
It's an XUV 500 facelift on the outside. Could call it an XUV 501.
The only thing that justifies the 500 to 700 jump is the interiors. Will the electronics work as well in the long run? That only time will tell. I liked the black color which was briefly shown. The XUV Blue is poor as compared to the Safari blue.

Looks just a little bit longer than XUV500.

If I recall correctly, the media embargo ends at 10am on 18th of August. Can't wait for a full fledged review.

I think it's a good thing that the door handles are an optional item. I do not trust them to be long lasting in rough usage, and conventional handles are always more trustworthy. Bummed about the 12 speaker system though, should've been standard on the AX7.
